31 March - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.
Transcript
00:00The last day of March brings yet another low pressure, fairly apt because of the amount
00:06of wind and rain we've seen across the UK this month, especially southern areas and
00:10that's where this area of low pressure is moving through. We've seen particularly strong
00:14winds across southern parts and the risk of gales continues for parts of Cornwall, English
00:20Channel coast as well. But actually the low is filling as it's moving away and so the
00:24winds gradually relenting, however further spiralling bands of rain affecting much of
00:29the UK. Rain or showers for many, the heaviest and most persistent rain through the afternoon
00:34across parts of Cornwall into Devon where 40-60mm of rain in 24 hours is possible for
00:40the moors. Some lively downpours for the south east of England, showery bits and pieces elsewhere
00:45across the UK, a lot of cloud as well and temperatures up at around 12-13C for many
00:52but feeling a bit colder on the North Sea coast where we're going to see an increased
00:56breeze coming off that North Sea affecting eastern parts of England. A lot of cloud covering
01:02the hills in the east and across Wales and the south west as we go through the night
01:06time. Any clear spells really confined to the Northern Isles and the west coast of Scotland
01:12otherwise it's a cloudy picture overnight. Spells of wet weather pushing back into western
01:16parts of Northern Ireland, Wales and central southern England, some heavy rain at times
01:20here, drizzly bits for the east coast of England and south east Scotland and with all the weather
01:26going on temperatures staying up at 5-9C. But it is a grey and damp day for many of
01:32us on Saturday, certainly across the east coast there we're going to see further outbreaks
01:37of light rain and drizzle. The rain continuing for western parts of Northern Ireland into
01:41parts of south Wales and the south west, eventually turning to showers and some brighter skies
01:46emerging for western Scotland and west Wales into the south and south west of England where
01:50we do get some sunshine coming through, 14C possible but marked chill there for the North
01:56Sea coast, 7-8C with the breeze coming in from the east. So it's a gradual improvement
02:03this weekend but it does take its time and you can see this clearer slot of weather waiting
02:09to the east, that's going to eventually push in but first we've got to see this cloud through
02:16and that's going to move westwards across the country on Saturday night and into the
02:20start of Sunday with further outbreaks of light rain and drizzle. Next week starts off
02:26much brighter and drier for most of us.
