00:00Hello again. The story of August so far has been the cloud cover, an awful lot of it in
00:05many places and it will be largely cloudy for most places for the final day of the month.
00:11There will be some sunshine and as has been also the theme this month, that sunshine mainly
00:17towards the north-west of the UK. That's where this high pressure is sitting, high pressure
00:21blocking unsettled weather but feeding us an awful lot of cloud on this east to north-east
00:27wind. So extensive cloud, stratocumulus but a solid sheet, so grey overcast skies for
00:35many and that cloud producing one or two light drizzly showers predominantly towards the
00:39east. Feeling cool where we get the cloud cover, mid to high teens at best, particularly
00:45along this east coast. But where we do get some breaks in the cloud, parts of northern
00:49England into western Scotland, Northern Ireland where temperatures will get up to 21 or 22
00:55Celsius. Not as high as 27.2 Celsius which is the highest temperature in the UK this
01:01month, set in Scotland on the 25th of August and that means that it looks like this August
01:07will only be the third time that the UK's maximum temperature in August has been set
01:14in Scotland. A disappointingly cool and cloudy end to the month then for many places. The
01:21cloud thickens if anything across central and eastern parts of the country overnight
01:25with some more light drizzly showers feeding in along with this cool breeze. Clear spells
01:31though, central and western Scotland mainly and one or two breaks elsewhere. Where we
01:36get the cloud breaks, temperatures dipping into the single figures and where we get prolonged
01:40clear spells in sheltered parts of central Scotland, two to three Celsius possible. So
01:45a marked temperature contrast whether you've got the cloud or the clear spells by the start
01:49of Wednesday but most places will get the cloud again and that cloud again thick enough
01:55to give some outbreaks of light rain and drizzle. Quite a lot of it I think first thing but
01:59it does tend to ebb back to the coast and most places then turn up dry by the afternoon
02:05and you can see well a repeat performance effectively, perhaps a bit more sunshine for
02:11parts of Scotland and higher temperatures as a result 23 or 24 Celsius central belt
02:16southwest and west Scotland. Into the 20s as well for parts of Northern Ireland where
02:22we get a bit of sunshine coming through but much of England and Wales it's simply cloudy
02:26away from the likes of Cumbria and that cool breeze will continue to feed the cloud in
02:31from the North Sea as we end Wednesday. So it doesn't look like much will change by Thursday,
02:38it stays settled yes but high pressure doesn't always bring us sunshine as has certainly
02:44been the case this week. Follow us on social media and we'll keep you updated on the latest.
02:48Bye bye.
