13 August - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.
Transcript
00:00Hi there, another breezy day across northern parts of the UK, especially northern and western
00:05Scotland with some showers. Meanwhile, it's mainly fine further south, England and Wales
00:10not seeing a great deal of showers because high pressure is closer here, whilst low pressure
00:16affects north-western Scotland. The isobars there fairly packed together, bringing those
00:21strong winds to northern and western Scotland in particular. And occluded fronts, mainly
00:27just suggestive of areas of cloud and some showers. And there is a lot of cloud in the
00:32forecast for the rest of Friday, especially across southern parts of England where there
00:37will be one or two showers, but more especially northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland
00:41where there will be more frequent showers and some of these will be on the heavy side,
00:45especially for western Scotland, along with that keen breeze. That's going to make it
00:49feel cool. But where we get some sunshine, the best of which will be through parts of
00:53Wales into the Midlands, parts of north-east England. Temperatures up to 24 Celsius will
00:59feel fairly pleasant. The cloud in the south will actually disappear into the evening and
01:05further north, cloud will thin, but further showers will push into northern and western
01:09Scotland. There will be fewer of them, but still some going through the night. Whilst
01:15elsewhere, long clear spells for many, but a mild night with temperatures in some places
01:20not much lower than 15 or 16 Celsius. And the clear spells don't last long across Wales
01:25and the south-west. Soon enough here, low cloud creeps back in along with some mistiness
01:30around coasts and some patchy drizzle, mainly across Wales later in the morning and then
01:35that patchy rain and drizzle pushes into parts of north-west England by the afternoon. Not
01:42a great deal of rainfall, it's generally light stuff that's coming out of low cloud and you
01:47can see this tongue of gloomy and damp weather affecting central areas. In the south, a
01:53brighter day to come with some sunshine and eastern England seeing sunny spells, but northern
01:59and central Scotland continues to see a few showers along with parts of southern Scotland.
02:04Northern Ireland mainly dry, albeit cloudy. Temperatures reaching 23 Celsius where we
02:09get some sunshine towards the east of England, otherwise high teens in the north, but turning
02:15less breezy compared to Friday. Into Saturday evening and we'll continue to see that tongue
02:20of low cloud and dampness push into parts of north Wales and northern England, perhaps
02:24some more moderate bursts of rain at times. But either side of that, a few clear spells
02:29developing, the showers in the north clearing and the breeze easing as well. That sets us
02:34up for another largely benign day on Sunday, albeit with a lot of cloud across the country
02:39and some patchy rain or showers here and there. A quiet start to the next week as well with
02:44high pressure closer to the UK, but no heatwave on the way and we'll keep you updated if you
02:50follow us on social media. Bye bye.
