00:00Hello, and welcome to the latest update from the Met Office. August so far has been disappointingly
00:06cloudy for many places and in particular the last few days, stubborn areas of cloud have
00:11stuck around. It's a similar theme for some during the rest of today with large areas
00:17of cloud sticking around. But away from those areas of cloud, sunny skies. So marked contrast
00:24from place to place during the rest of the day with the northwestern areas seeing the
00:28best of the sunshine. Eastern areas seeing a lot of cloud and there is some cloud across
00:33Northern Ireland, parts of Wales and the southwest associated with a decaying cold front. That
00:37will tend to break and lift. So brightening up in these areas but perhaps some cloud sticking
00:42around. But really it's into the east across parts of the Midlands, East Anglia, South
00:46East England, North East England, parts of North East Scotland where we keep that cloud
00:50feeding in from the North Sea along with a cool breeze holding back those temperatures
00:5516 to 18 Celsius on the coast. Inland and where we've got sunnier skies, low 20s and
01:01perhaps reaching the mid-20s around western Scotland, western parts of Northern Ireland.
01:06Those are going to be the warm spots once again but not as warm as Wednesday afternoon's
01:11temperatures. Into the evening and these areas of cloud stick around for some time but perhaps
01:17breaking up in places. So clear skies predominantly to the west, cloudier skies predominantly
01:22to the east where we get that cloud. Temperatures holding up into the teens in places where
01:27we get the clear skies. Temperatures dipping in rural spots. A little below 5 degrees in
01:33one or two particularly sheltered spots. Wales for example, parts of Scotland and so always
01:39the potential for such a grass frost in one or two very cool spots as we start off Friday.
01:45It will be a fresh start. One or two missed patches as well first thing. Soon enough the
01:49sunshine warms things up. Scotland, Northern Ireland, West Wales, Cornwall faring best
01:54I think as far as sunshine is concerned on Friday. You can see a lot of this cloud emerging
01:59across much of England, much of Wales as well. So another cloudy day on the cards I think
02:05for many central areas and perhaps a little less on the North Sea coast and western coast
02:11as well doing well. But Scotland and Northern Ireland again seeing the highest temperatures
02:16potentially towards the west of these areas. South East England 22 Celsius as well. So
02:24generally temperatures not far from average but it will be cooler on the east coast, warmer
02:30to the north west and that's really how things stay heading into the weekend which of course
02:36is a bank holiday weekend for Northern Ireland, Wales and England. High pressure you can see
02:40remains fixed to the north west of the UK, almost stationary. So the weather set up during
02:48the next few days doesn't really change and so in summary that means that it will be often
02:54cool and cloudy in the east and south east. Perhaps one or two showers at the weekend
02:59well scattered and nothing particularly heavy whilst the best of the sunshine and the warmth
03:04will remain out towards western Scotland as well as Northern Ireland. That's all for me
03:09but of course you can stay up to date by following the Met Office on social media. Bye bye.
