00:00Hi there. For many places it's going to turn windier through the rest of the day, but especially
00:05in the far north where we are closest to this area of low pressure. Deep low crossing Iceland.
00:10It's sent forth its weather fronts overnight, bringing a spell of rain for many, although
00:14in the south those weather fronts considerably weaker as they run into high pressure and
00:19by the afternoon really we're clearing the cloud as well and for many places across England
00:24and Wales certainly bright spells or even some sunshine coming through. Now for the
00:29far north of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, showers arrive and these showers
00:34in cold air are falling as snow above 400 or 500 metres, settling on some of the very
00:39highest routes across Scotland and also accompanied by a strong wind, that wind gusty around hills
00:45and coasts with the risk of gales in the far north. The wind will also strengthen further
00:50as we head into Tuesday evening, the area of low pressure near Iceland coming closer
00:54to northern Scotland, isobars tightening up and the risk for northern coasts, especially
00:59around Orkney, the north of the mainland and Lewes, of 60 or 70 mph wind gusts, perhaps
01:03a touch more for some of the very exposed sea areas. So risk of disruption overnight
01:09from those strengthening winds. They'll also bring an increase in the showery activity
01:13across Scotland, Northern Ireland, into Northern England as well and for a time the rain will
01:17become more prolonged and heavier, especially across the central belt and southern Scotland
01:23by dawn. It's also going to be a wintry night over Scotland's hills and mountains above
01:28400 or 500 metres and a cold night, 3 or 4 Celsius at lower levels but a frost over
01:34higher ground. Further south, 5 or 6 Celsius in some of the very sheltered spots, perhaps
01:40a touch of ground frost. But a bright start in the southern half of the UK, some decent
01:44sunny spells first thing. Area of cloud affecting northern England, southern Scotland and Northern
01:49Ireland with some outbreaks of rain. The showery rain here, more persistent at times. But further
01:54north the showers and the wind tend to ease during the afternoon. The worst of the conditions
01:59clear from the very far north-east. Some sunshine reappears for eastern Scotland but cloudier
02:05skies filter south into southern parts of the UK. So perhaps not quite as mild in the
02:09south, 9, 10, 11 Celsius but a little milder further north, 7 to 9 Celsius as those winds
02:16ease and we start to bring a milder air in from the west. This is a warm front. It's
02:21going to cross the northern half of the UK during Wednesday afternoon and into the evening.
02:27A relatively weak feature but it's going to pep up as we go into Wednesday night bringing
02:32some more extensive rain and hills now across Scotland and northern England for a time.
02:37A lot of cloud associated with this but some clear spells further south. And then we're
02:41into this warming up trend as we go into Thursday and Friday. Temperatures across the UK rising
02:48above average.
