00:00Welcome to your latest national weather update from the Met Office.
00:03Winter has made a return for sure. It's cold out there today despite many places
00:08seeing some sunny skies. High pressure is controlling our weather. This
00:12weather front brought some wet weather overnight and around the high the winds
00:15coming down from the north bringing the cold air and those winds feeding in the
00:19moisture from the North Sea. So you can see a lot of showers here on the
00:22satellites and radar streaming into the east weather front just clearing away
00:27from the Channel Isles earlier on. That brought a bit of snow overnight and
00:30still in these showers across the east is going to be a mixture of hail, sleet
00:34and some hill snow at times. So staying pretty cold even in the sunny skies
00:39across the Midlands, Wales, Northern Ireland, Western Scotland and Southwest
00:43England too. We've got plenty of blue sky we might just touch double digits but
00:47for most single figures and when you add on that wind which is particularly
00:52lively across East Anglia and Kent it does feel much closer to freezing. So
00:58really bitter winds blowing especially as I say along that coastline of East
01:02Anglia and Kent this afternoon. Well we've got the showers keeping going
01:06through the evening and overnight things could turn quite slippery again so we're
01:10a bit concerned about ice. We have a Met Office yellow warning in place covering
01:14much of northern eastern Scotland down the eastern side of England as well and
01:18later in night we could see some more wintery weather coming back into East
01:22Anglia and Kent. So again you could wake up to a covering of snow in these
01:25eastern most locations. Further west it's generally just a dry and a clear night
01:31with particularly across parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland a chance of seeing the
01:34aurora with those clear skies as well. But you need to wrap up if you're
01:37heading out because it is going to be a cold night as you can imagine
01:40temperatures by dawn down to freezing or a touch below. So still potentially a
01:45little icy for Friday morning across these eastern areas where the showers
01:48continue to feed in. Those showers will still have some snow mixed in mostly
01:52over hills but even at low levels for time certainly some sleet and some hail.
01:56The showers will keep going across Kent well into the day parts of Yorkshire as
02:00well. And then we're looking at another weather feature bringing more cloud to
02:03western Scotland during Friday that'll have some rain and some hill snow mixed
02:08in pushing down towards Northern Ireland late on. Again large chunks of the
02:12country will be dry fine and sunny but it will be cold. Now the winds won't be
02:18as strong tomorrow so perhaps it won't feel quite so bitter but still only
02:22single figures on those North Sea coasts maybe more widely double digits across
02:26the south. As I said those winds a little bit lighter compared to today.
02:31There's that weather feature pushing south into Northern Ireland bringing
02:34rain here but some hill snow again across southwest Scotland as it edges
02:38down towards the Irish Sea late in the day. A few showers continuing in the east
02:43so again things could be a little icy on Friday night and Saturday morning. But
02:47into the weekend a little weather front bringing some wet weather across the
02:51southwest on Saturday morning but generally high pressure remains close by.
02:55These weather fronts may reintroduce some wet weather across the north during
03:00Sunday but with high pressure close by there'll be a lot of dry weather this
03:03weekend but it will still be pretty chilly. More details on that with our
03:07weekend forecast which you can check out if you subscribe to our YouTube channels.
