00:00Hello again. Welcome to your national weather updates.
00:03Much colder weather is on the way for all of us
00:05over the next couple of days.
00:07Today, it's a bit of a mishmash.
00:09Some cloudier zones with some showers,
00:11particularly across the south and the far north,
00:13but in between, some places dry and bright
00:16and still relatively warm in that sunshine.
00:19Of course, Northern Ireland, southwest Scotland,
00:21northwest England.
00:22Elsewhere, as I said, a lot of clouds,
00:24some showers drifting into the southern parts
00:26of the Midlands, South Wales, along
00:27with the south coast of England.
00:29Some bright skies across Cornwall, northwest Wales,
00:32Northern Ireland seeing some sunny spells,
00:34and western Scotland.
00:35But in the northeast, we have a line
00:37of rain and some hill snow.
00:39And that marks the boundary between the relatively mild
00:42conditions, which are still in place for most of us,
00:45and the colder air moving in across the northeast.
00:48Temperatures here, single figures at best.
00:50But that colder air is going to sink southwards
00:54as we go through this evening.
00:55And overnight, we'll see some of that wet weather.
00:57Will be rain at this stage coming
00:58into the central belt of Scotland.
01:00But across the northern half of Scotland,
01:01the showers moving in, in the colder air,
01:04will be falling as sleet, snow, and hail.
01:07And that could turn things quite icy.
01:09So we do have a Met Office yellow warning in place.
01:11The rain band by the end of the night
01:13working into northern England.
01:15The showers in the south easing off, so much of the Midlands,
01:17Wales, and southern England having a dry night.
01:20And still relatively mild here as well,
01:22with temperatures staying well above freezing.
01:24But with the colder air pushing in further north,
01:27we will see a fairly extensive frost across Scotland.
01:31And the colder air will continue to track south
01:32during Wednesday.
01:33Still a potential for icy conditions
01:35through the morning rush hour across northern Scotland.
01:38This zone of rain across northern Ireland,
01:40northern England will push into the Midlands.
01:42And increasingly, over the hills of northern England,
01:45will start to turn a little bit wintry.
01:46So some sleet and snow likely here by the end of Wednesday.
01:49Rain then working into East Anglia across the Midlands.
01:52And some showers developing in south Wales and southwest
01:55England.
01:56Generally here, by and large, another fine day
01:59with some sunny spells.
02:00And here still, temperatures above average for one more day.
02:03But further north turning much colder.
02:05Temperatures significantly lower,
02:07despite some afternoon sunshine in northern Ireland, Glasgow,
02:10and Manchester.
02:11And with that wind across the far northeast
02:13feeling even colder as those wintry showers persist.
02:16And there'll be more of those to come through Wednesday evening.
02:19So again, things could turn icy.
02:20But it's this zone we're really a bit more concerned about,
02:23and there's more uncertainty about.
02:25Because this is going to be a real mixture, it looks like,
02:27of rain, sleet, and some snow.
02:29Not just over the hills.
02:31There is a chance of some snow, even to relatively low levels,
02:34for a time as we go through Wednesday night
02:36and into Thursday morning across parts of the Midlands
02:38and southern England.
02:39So you may wake up to a covering across parts
02:42of the south on Thursday morning.
02:44All from that weather front that slips away
02:46and introduces high pressure behind it.
02:48So actually, once that's out of the way,
02:50a lot of dry, fine weather for Thursday and Friday.
02:53But it is going to be colder.
02:56If we rewind it, just watch as this weather front
02:58slips southwards.
02:59One more warmish day across the southwest on Wednesday.
03:03But then the cold air is in place right across the UK.
03:06Those blue colours through Thursday and Friday.
03:08Much colder for all, with one or two wintry showers
03:11here and there.
03:12So a big change, certainly compared to last week.
03:15For more details, particularly on the weather warnings,
03:17make sure you stay up to date by downloading the Met Office app
03:21or visiting our website.
03:22And of course, there's always plenty more on social media.
