00:00Thanks for joining me for this Bank holiday weekend weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Plenty of fine and sunny weather around this weekend, but it's not going to be spectacularly
00:08warm. In fact, quite a fresh start to Saturday. Temperatures in some rural spots over the
00:13Midlands, Wales, only 2 or 3 degrees above freezing, and towns and cities mostly into
00:18single figures. So, a coolish start, but the sun is strong and it's up pretty early, so
00:23it will soon start to lift those temperatures. It won't be sunny everywhere, some areas of
00:27cloud, and particularly over northern Scotland, the cloud thickening through the course of
00:31Friday night into Saturday morning and bringing a little bit of light rain and drizzle as
00:35the breeze picks up here. Elsewhere though, the winds are light and, as I said, we'll
00:40start the weekend with a fair bit of sunshine. Some patchy cloud over England and Wales,
00:44but generally the weather is set fair here. It will cloud over a little for Scotland and
00:48Northern Ireland, and it will be a fairly damp morning over the Highlands of Scotland,
00:52but that rain fizzling out as it pushes towards central Scotland, so staying dry and bright
00:57across the east and through the central belt, and even the far north-west of Scotland actually
01:01brightening up through the afternoon with sunny spells. There will be a very brisk breeze
01:05blowing here, bringing in maybe the odd shower late in the day. And a cool feel as well here,
01:11but elsewhere, temperatures actually generally a little bit higher than on Friday. A warm
01:16spot there, the West Midlands, south-east Wales, down towards Somerset, 23, maybe 24
01:22Celsius. Some coasts will be cooler, and as I mentioned, it will be cooler in Northern
01:26Scotland with a brisk breeze and a bit more cloud. Now, that thicker cloud with the odd
01:32spot of rain will shift through southern Scotland during the evening and then introduce a bit
01:37more cloud down the eastern side of England during the course of the night into Sunday
01:41morning. But again, most places are going to have a fine night with clear spells. Now,
01:47the colder conditions just shift further north. Just see that hint of blue on the chart there
01:51across Scotland. There could be some pockets of frost on Sunday morning here. But again,
01:56for most places, it's going to be a fine, bright start. Any early morning mist will
02:00disappear sharply. A cloudier day over eastern counties of England on Sunday, but generally
02:06a sunnier day over Northern Scotland. Light winds here as well. There will be a bit more
02:11of a breeze along the east coast. So again, if you've got that breeze off the sea, it
02:16is going to feel a little fresh. Sea temperatures are still on the cool side, and generally
02:20temperatures a little lower on Sunday. So in the south, we might still squeak up to
02:2420 or 21, but mostly we're looking at high teens and some of the beaches will be quite
02:30a bit cooler than that. So just be aware of that if you are heading to the seaside. High
02:34pressure continues to dominate as we go through the long weekend, even into Monday. A cold
02:40front is shifting away. So the high pressure building back in again, bringing a lot of
02:45fine weather on Bank Holiday Monday. Temperatures, though, will be dipping a little bit. We saw
02:50that cold front. If we just rewind, come back to Saturday, you can see that behind that
02:56cold front, that's where the colder air is pushing in across the far north. And that
03:00does trickle a little further south as we go through Sunday. Hence why it will be a
03:04little bit cooler, particularly in the east. But as the high pressure builds in, signs
03:08of things perhaps warming up again as we go through next week. So a fine weekend by and
03:15Don't forget the sunscreen this weekend. UV levels will be high at Bank Holiday Monday.
03:20A good day to get out and about and enjoy that sunshine, although it will be a little
03:25cooler by Monday, certainly across the south compared to Saturday. More details as the
03:30weekend progresses on social media. So stay updated by making sure you're following us.
