00:00Thanks for joining me for this national weather update.
00:02It's a three-way split with the weather today.
00:05Largely fine and bright across the south.
00:07Further north, we've got a mixture of sunshine and showers.
00:10And in central areas, we've got a lot of cloud
00:12and some outbreaks of rain.
00:14Now, this is the radar.
00:15It shows the rain earlier today, a damp start
00:17for Northern Ireland.
00:18But that rain has cleared from here mostly,
00:20pushing into Northern England.
00:21So it's here across North Wales.
00:22It's going to stay pretty dull and damp
00:24through the rest of the afternoon.
00:26Further south, most places dry.
00:28Quite a bit of cloud, but some sunny spells
00:30across East Anglia and the southeast of England.
00:32And some sunny spells for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:34But we do have a lot of showers coming into Scotland
00:37in particular.
00:38A fairly brisk breeze blowing wherever you are.
00:41Quite a contrast in temperatures
00:43where we see some sunshine across the southeast.
00:4622 is possible, but it's cool where we've got that cloud
00:49and rain on and off across Northern England.
00:52And feeling pretty fresh with the showers
00:54and the brisk wind across Western Scotland as well.
00:56Temperatures in the mid-teens at best.
00:59The patchy rain will spread south over the Midlands,
01:00South Wales this evening.
01:02So a little bit of rain for a time.
01:03And staying fairly dank and misty overnight
01:06in South West England.
01:08We'll keep some showers going in Western parts of Scotland.
01:10But for most, it'll turn dry.
01:13It'll stay quite breezy across the Northwest.
01:15But lighter winds for England and Wales.
01:17I mean, with clear skies, it will actually
01:19turn quite chilly.
01:20Temperatures down into single figures.
01:22Well down in rural areas, East Wales,
01:24parts of the West Midlands, in the countryside,
01:27we could be only a few degrees above freezing to start Friday.
01:30So a fresh but fine start to Friday for the vast majority.
01:35Yes, there will still be showers across Scotland.
01:37We'll keep them going all day over the Highlands
01:40and the Northern Isles.
01:40Some across Aberdeenshire.
01:42A few getting through the central belt
01:43and into Southern Scotland.
01:45But they should tend to fizzle out.
01:47Elsewhere, it is by and large a dry day.
01:50And certainly across the Midlands, Wales,
01:51Southern England, East Anglia, it's
01:54going to be a largely sunny one as well.
01:56With lighter winds than today, it will feel pretty pleasant.
01:59Yes, we'll start off with temperatures in single figures.
02:02But by the afternoon, widely into the high teens
02:04or low 20s, 21, 22, possibly even 23 Celsius.
02:08Cooler, obviously, where we've got the cloudy skies again
02:11further north and the showers coming into Northwest Scotland
02:13just 13 or 14.
02:15It's still quite breezy here as well.
02:17So feeling cooler than that.
02:19During Friday evening, the showers in Northern Scotland
02:21will tend to fizzle away.
02:23So most places coming dry as we head into the weekend.
02:26Again, clear skies and light winds
02:28will allow temperatures to fall away.
02:30It'll be a chilly start to the weekend.
02:32But for most places, this big area of high pressure
02:34will bring a fine day on Saturday
02:37with quite a bit of sunshine and fairly light winds.
02:40Subtle changes, though, during Saturday and Sunday.
02:42The high starts to shrink away.
02:45And actually, low pressure starts to develop
02:48and come in from the east.
02:49So that is going to bring quite a change
02:51as we go through the weekend.
02:53As I said, Saturday starting fine with some warmth,
02:56particularly over Wales and southwest England.
02:59But as the high slips away, cooler air
03:01drifting in from the north.
03:02And not just cooler air, but cloudier skies
03:05as the low pressure moves in and even a few scattered showers
03:08during Sunday and into Monday.
03:10So Saturday, by and large, set fair.
03:12But it will turn cooler and cloudier through the weekend.
