00:00Thanks for joining me for this national weather update. It's a dry but chilly day,
00:05kind of sums up the weather for most places. It's also fairly cloudy,
00:09certainly more cloud around than yesterday. This is the satellite image
00:12first thing in the morning. There were some breaks here and there and notice
00:16the spotty nature to the cloud over the Northern Isles. That's showers which will
00:20continue to feed in on a brisk and pretty fresh northerly wind. Elsewhere
00:24the winds are fairly light. It is predominantly cloudy but there's a few
00:27holes here and there. We'll see some brightness, a bit of weak sunshine is
00:31possible. Also possible one or two scattered showers over northern England
00:35and southern Scotland and maybe a bit of drizzle on the south coast of Devon and
00:39Cornwall. But for most places it's dry. It isn't particularly warm. Temperatures
00:44are ticking up slowly but single digits for this time of year pretty
00:47disappointing. Of course Scotland far north of England feeling pretty cold in
00:52that northerly winds in Shetland. Further south with a bit of brightness we might
00:55squeak into the teens perhaps but generally still below average. As we go
01:00through this evening and overnight it's not a great deal of change. We'll see
01:04perhaps the cloud breaking up a little more over central parts. We'll see the
01:07cloud thickening more over Northern Ireland and Western Scotland. It could
01:11turn a little damp here through the early hours and the cloud potentially
01:14thickening up a little bit in the far southwest. But for most it's dry nights
01:18and perhaps not quite as cold as recent nights. But still in northern Scotland we
01:23could see temperatures dropping down below freezing. Minus one, minus two in
01:27the far north here. Maybe minus three or four through some sheltered glens. Further
01:31south we're looking at lows into the low single figures in some spots. So a chilly
01:36start to Thursday. Some brightness around early on. Parts of northern England maybe
01:40north Wales seeing a bit of early sunshine. But a great start for the north
01:44coast of Northern Ireland and this wet weather working into much of Scotland.
01:47Quite a bit of snow on the tops of the hills but at low levels it will all be
01:52rain and the central belt may turn drier come the afternoon. At the same
01:55time it's massive rain edging into England and Wales. Some uncertainty about the
01:59timing, the extent of this rain. But expect some outbreaks of rain to be
02:03coming in across the Midlands, Wales and southern England through the afternoon.
02:07The winds will be picking up as well. Now this wetter weather will also be
02:11bringing with it milder air. So temperatures more widely into the teens.
02:15Although obviously it's not going to feel very pleasant with the outbreaks of
02:18rain. Generally with a bit of brightness eastern England, southern Scotland,
02:2211 or 12 Celsius still feeling pretty cold in northern Scotland. But even here
02:26the milder air is slowly moving in and that process continues during Thursday
02:31night and into Friday. Further outbreaks of rain. Again it's going to be messy how
02:36much of it gets into Northern Ireland, northern England. Breaks of rain further
02:39south. Could be on the heavy side some brighter colors mixed in there too. It's
02:43all courtesy of a developing area of low pressure. As I said some uncertainty about
02:47the exact time and extent of this low. But it does look like it's going to move
02:51out of the way during Friday. And something of an area of high pressure
02:56moves in. Not a particularly big or strong one. It's looking fairly weak but
03:01that high drifting in promising to give a drier couple of days. But then the
03:06threat of weather fronts and low pressure bringing showers back during
03:09the course of the weekend. So Bank Holiday weekend of course a bit messy in
03:14terms of the position and timing of those that low pressure. But what we are
03:17going to see is the colder air that's been in place getting moved out of the
03:21way. So milder air will be winning. So we do know it is going to turn warmer
03:25through the weekend. But there's still likely to be a fair few showers around
03:30as well. More details on that and beyond in our 10-day trend forecast that'll be
03:35available on YouTube by Wednesday afternoon. So if you're watching on
03:40YouTube hit subscribe and then you'll always be up to date.
