00:00Hi there. Cold weather stays with us for the next few days and overnight so
00:05widespread frost is expected as well as, for some, further snow and ice. Northern
00:11Scotland continues to see wintry showers, mostly snow, some sleetiness around
00:16coasts. Northern Ireland, north-west England into north Wales, those showers
00:20continue through the evening. But another area, the south-west, in particular
00:24Cornwall, more persistent precipitation affecting here with mainly rain at lower
00:29levels and sleet or snow above 100 metres or so. So some icy patches around
00:34in the south-west first thing and certainly where we've got those snow
00:37showers continuing overnight. Slippery surfaces are expected but for many it's
00:42a clear and very cold night. Temperatures dipping below freezing widely, well
00:47below freezing in some places. A frosty but bright start to the day, plenty of
00:51sunshine across the country, one or two isolated fog patches through central
00:55areas but otherwise for many it's bright blue skies. However those areas
01:00that have seen the wintry showers will continue to see them. Northern Scotland,
01:03Northern Ireland into north-west England and north Wales in particular, one or two
01:07elsewhere, a couple perhaps sinking into the Midlands. For many it's a bright but
01:13crisp day, 2 to 4 Celsius generally and temperatures staying below freezing in
01:18sheltered glens of Scotland and over northern hills. Then later Tuesday our
01:23attention turns to the far north. Shetland's seen some very wintry weather
01:26over the past 24 hours and this area of low pressure will bring further spells
01:31of wintry precipitation. However it gets a bit messy because this low does
01:36contain a slightly warmer core. You can see the colours not quite as blue and so
01:41the snow showers across the Northern Isles associated with this turning a bit
01:45more to rain and sleet at lower levels but certainly snow over hills and as the
01:48isobars tighten together there is the risk for northern Scotland of dales and
01:54where we've got the snow coming down over 100 metres or so over northern
01:58Scotland. Well that includes drifting of snow and also blizzard conditions so
02:04really quite treacherous for northern Scotland on Tuesday night. Further
02:08showers coming into Northern Ireland into north-west England, west Wales
02:10perhaps Cornwall as well but for many once again it's a clear and frosty night.
02:15Temperature's not dipping quite as far because we've got more of a breeze
02:19coming in from the north across the UK and some patchy cloud as well affecting
02:24many areas. Nevertheless it's a crisp frosty start, a bright start for many on
02:29Wednesday morning but for northern Scotland Northern Ireland will continue
02:33to see these sleet and snow showers coming in and then through the day the
02:37winds begin to bring those showers to parts of northeast England so covering
02:41over the North York Moors for example the Pennines and for Wales as well some
02:46covering over the higher ground perhaps the southwest moors but away from those
02:50areas Midlands, East Anglia, South East it's simply sunny skies and temperatures
02:55up at 4-5 Celsius typically across the country not quite as cold around
03:00coastal areas nevertheless it is going to feel cold with the wind coming from
03:04the north. Then as we end the week gradually the snow showers become fewer
03:08and further between they'll become more confined to eastern coasts as the
03:12weather very gradually turns milder from the west but it's going to take its time
03:18through the weekend.
