00:00Hello and welcome to the latest from the Met Office. We'll start the weekend with copious
00:05amounts of low cloud and fog, but brighter skies are looking more likely on Sunday, even
00:12some sunshine in many places. We're going to go from one high to the next over the next
00:16few days, so the one constant is that the weather is staying settled. However, initially
00:21on Friday night and Saturday we are going to see a lot of low cloud and fog as this
00:26high moves away. The two highs, this one and the next one that comes along later in the
00:31weekend are separated by a weather front which will help to clear the low cloud and fog by
00:37Sunday and bring much brighter skies to many places, albeit with quite a few showers and
00:42a brisk wind in the far north. And then this high comes to dominate the weather for next
00:47week and that means that we're going to see more of the same I think throughout much of
00:51next week. And that means plenty of settled weather but not entirely sunny skies because
00:56we have seen a lot of cloud for Scotland and Northern Ireland this week. That continues
00:59on Friday night. Meanwhile, for much of England and Wales, clear at first and then mist and
01:04fog soon form, especially across parts of the Midlands into eastern England where it
01:08will be dense in places there is a fog warning in force. There will also be some fog elsewhere
01:12but also low cloud for much of South Wales, central and southern parts of England. A few
01:19clear spells however, North Wales for example, North West England and a widespread frost
01:23forming once again across England and Wales with temperatures in some shelter spots down
01:27to minus three to minus five Celsius. So a freezing foggy start to the day once again
01:32on Saturday and those stubborn fog patches perhaps continuing all day in places, say
01:38for example parts of eastern England. So watch out on the roads first thing for that. Otherwise
01:44a lot of low cloud I think across parts of England and Wales, some brighter skies in
01:48places but certainly it looks generally cloudy across the UK. The clouds thick enough to
01:53give a few spots of rain or showers, mainly towards the West and North West and it's going
01:58to feel cold. Temperatures around average or just below and where we get the fog persisting,
02:03those temperatures, well not far from zero throughout much of the day I think. Into Saturday
02:08night a change comes along and that's the weather front I mentioned. It brings a spell
02:11of rain into North West Scotland by the evening and then that area of rain fizzles out as
02:17it pushes south across Scotland and Northern Ireland. So not much rain associated with
02:21it but it does help to clear the skies into the north of Scotland by the end of the night.
02:25It also turns the air colder and windier. Further south a bit more of a breeze, perhaps
02:30a bit more cloud and so less frosty and foggy compared to previous nights but you wouldn't
02:35discount it entirely. So a lot of cloud I think first thing Sunday but as this front
02:41moves south bringing some dribbly bits of rain, it's going to clear the air and for
02:46Scotland, Northern Ireland, for Northern England and then North Wales, parts of the
02:50Midlands, decent sunny spells breaking out. Even some brighter spells further south as
02:54well but that's where the cloudier stuff will remain and for Northern Scotland a windy day
02:59to come on Sunday with some showers and cloudier again for North West Scotland. But in between
03:04you can see plenty of blue skies so much brighter day for many of us on Sunday and a touch milder
03:10as well, particularly given that we won't have those lingering fog patches. So a bit
03:14of a contrast through the weekend as we clear the low cloud and fog and replace it with
03:19blue skies and sunshine but the overall settled theme remains and that's how it looks well
03:24into next week. Follow us on social media, keep you updated. Bye bye.
