Transcript
00:00Hi there, and welcome to the latest from the Met Office.
00:03There'll be some rain in a few spots on Wednesday,
00:06but on the whole, many places will be dry,
00:08although a lot of cloud will prevail
00:10and it will be another mild day.
00:13Brighter skies in the east and the far north,
00:16a better chance of sunshine in places
00:19compared to Tuesday, which ends, again,
00:21with extensive cloud cover and wet weather
00:24for the northwest of Scotland.
00:26Some heavy rain for a time, northwest Highlands.
00:28This area of rain is sinking south, though,
00:30so it's clearing up across the Northern Isles,
00:32the Outer Hebrides.
00:33Some clear spells for northeast Scotland.
00:36Belfast staying dry, but the rest of Northern Ireland
00:38seeing thickening cloud and some rain sink south.
00:41Northwest England also seeing that rain.
00:43Further south again, and much of Wales,
00:45southern England sees cloudy skies
00:48continue into Wednesday morning.
00:50But overnight, a good chance of clear spells
00:53developing across north Wales,
00:54north Midlands, eastern England as well.
00:56And here, under those clear skies,
00:58a few fog patches will develop
01:00and it will be a chilly start for Wednesday morning.
01:04But otherwise, where we keep the cloud,
01:05it's a mild start, 10s, 11s, first thing Wednesday,
01:10and it stays cloudy in much of the country
01:12through the morning.
01:13The rain across central Scotland
01:16sinks just to the south of the Central Belt there,
01:19continues across parts of Northern Ireland,
01:20northwest England as well, but it brightens up.
01:23To the north of the Central Belt,
01:24some decent sunshine starts to emerge,
01:26one or two showers possible for the Northern Isles,
01:28otherwise a fine December day here.
01:31And some decent sunshine through the Midlands,
01:33east Wales into eastern England.
01:35But we keep the cloud cover, I think,
01:36for the rest of Wales, southern and southwest England,
01:39where again, there'll be one or two spots
01:41of drizzle in the air.
01:4312 or 13 in the south, 10 or 11 further north,
01:46so another mild day to come.
01:49And the cloud and rain through these central areas
01:51starts to push north once again overnight
01:55into the early hours of Thursday,
01:56so turning damp once more across northwest Scotland.
02:00Lots of cloud cover in the north, the south, and the west.
02:03Best of any clear spells once again through the night.
02:06Eastern parts of England, southern Scotland,
02:08where again, there'll be a few fog patches forming
02:11by dawn and a chilly start in these places.
02:14First thing Thursday.
02:15However, a change on the way
02:17through the second half of the week.
02:19High pressure is building from the continent.
02:22That's pushing these weather fronts
02:24and the jet stream is pushing north as well.
02:27So the main rain associated with these weather fronts
02:31pushes well to the north of the UK
02:33with that high pressure bringing a return
02:35to widespread settled weather,
02:37lighter winds, and very little rainfall.
02:40However, it will stay largely cloudy.
02:43You can see the extent of the cloud on Thursday.
02:45A lot of it's about across southern
02:47and western parts of the UK in particular.
02:49Best of any brightness in the east.
02:51The main area of rain though does clear
02:53from the Northern Isles early on.
02:55And then for many, it's looking like a dry afternoon.
02:59Always a chance of a few spots of drizzle in places,
03:01particularly western areas,
03:02but it's looking increasingly settled and with light winds
03:06and a good chance of some sunshine coming through,
03:08especially in the east.
03:10A pleasant day to come for many.
03:12Temperatures trending downwards though.
03:14We're looking at a return to around average,
03:16I think, later this week.
03:17And you can follow us on social media for much more.
03:20Bye-bye.
