14 December - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.

00:00Hi there, a grey and gloomy day for many of us, with some drizzle at times, particularly
00:05across western areas. It'll be wet in the far north-west, windy here as well as weather
00:10fronts push into northern and western Scotland. A weaker weather front affects central and
00:17southern parts of the UK, trapped by this area of high pressure over the continent,
00:22generally bringing a lot of cloud, some low cloud covering hills of Wales, northern England,
00:27some mist and fog in places as well, and some patchy drizzle, mainly across parts of
00:32Wales and the south-west I think. One or two cloud breaks further south and east, but actually
00:37for most it's a cloudy afternoon, and that breeze bringing in the thickest cloud to western
00:42Scotland, the far north as well, where there will be some persistent rain and gales affecting
00:48some exposed parts of the far north of Scotland. But that wind's coming from the south-west
00:52so it's a mild direction, temperatures in some places reaching 13 Celsius. And it stays
00:58mild for most overnight, with that cloud remaining, the breeze remaining, the rain remaining across
01:04western Scotland, although it does ease from the far north and it pushes south somewhat
01:08into central and southern Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland through the night. Also
01:12a lot of cloud cover remaining for southern parts of the country. In between, some cloud
01:17breaks, temperatures falling in these spots, and one or two fog patches by dawn. But for
01:24the vast majority those temperatures are staying up 8 to 11 Celsius I think by the start of
01:30Wednesday under the extensive cloud cover. It's through this central area where there
01:35is the risk of some fog patches first thing, they'll clear and then actually that's where
01:39they will see the best of the sunny spells through the day. Also some sunshine emerging
01:44to the north of the central belt as this weather front sinks south into Northern Ireland,
01:49southern Scotland and north-west England where it will bring some outbreaks of rain at times.
01:54Some showers in the far north and it's going to stay cloudy across Wales, the south-west,
01:58southern parts of England as well. That's where the mildest air will be, again 12 to
02:0313 Celsius, a bit colder there for the far north but still most places staying above
02:09average for the time of year. Now increasingly through Wednesday night this area of cloud
02:15and rain will fizzle out and high pressure to the south will tend to build across much
02:20of the country later this week. That will lead to a mostly dry and settled outlook but
02:25we will keep a lot of that cloud cover, some patchy drizzle at times and temperatures will
02:31begin to climb down. Much more on social media as ever, you can follow us on these channels.
02:36Bye bye.
