00:00Hello again. There is some deep snow across parts of northern Scotland and more to come
00:05during the rest of Tuesday, along with strengthening winds leading to blizzards and drifting of
00:10the snow in places as well. This low is responsible. You'll notice less blue colour there in the
00:16centre of the low, so it's got a warm core and that means that it's more likely to be
00:19rain and sleet at lower levels for a time around that low pressure as it moves through
00:24the Northern Isles during the rest of the day and then into mainland Scotland, but certainly
00:28inland, especially above 100m or so, we'll see some significant snow and for a short
00:33space of time around the evening, we could see another 10-15cm fall and accumulate and
00:41that combined with strong to gale force winds will lead to blizzards over the hills and
00:47of course drifting of the snow as well. So treacherous conditions, very tricky over any
00:52higher routes of northern Scotland. Northern Isles more likely to see rain at low levels
00:57with the snow confined to the hills and likewise for the coast of northern Scotland, but certainly
01:03inland, really treacherous for a time during the evening, that's why there's an amber warning
01:07in force. There's also likely to be further wintry showers into western Scotland and northern
01:11Ireland, parts of north-west England, Wales and it looks like these will be a mixture
01:17of rain, sleet and snow with some hail in places as well. The feature that brings the
01:22snow to northern Scotland then travels down the North Sea bringing strengthening winds
01:26through the night for north-east England and with a bit more of a breeze overnight
01:29for many, temperatures won't drop as far across the country, but still a widespread frost,
01:35still some ice concerns for southern and western areas in particular where we've seen the showers
01:40coming and going and where we've got a lot of moisture on the roads, so that includes
01:45southern England for example. So watch out for those slippery surfaces first thing Wednesday,
01:49there'll be further showers coming through northern Scotland, the showers at all levels
01:54turning back to snow but I think around northern Ireland, Wales, south-west England it's rain
01:59and sleet around coasts and at low levels snow over hills. And there'll also be wintry
02:04showers affecting the North Sea coast along with a strengthening wind making it feel cold.
02:09But all in all temperatures about a degree or so less cold compared with Tuesday afternoon,
02:15five to six in the south, three or four in the north and away from the showery areas,
02:20so inland through the central swathe, actually bright blue skies for many, although it will
02:26feel on the cold side with that breeze. Now into Wednesday night we'll see further showers
02:31coming and going, easing off for a time in the west I think but increasingly affecting
02:36eastern parts of the country, a wintry mix with these showers I suspect and further showers
02:42then coming into the far north of Scotland along with a strengthening wind, again a wintry
02:46mix so it's a lower levels rain, sleet, hail with snow primarily affecting hills. But towards
02:51the south-west thickening cloud and some outbreaks of rain push in, five degrees there in the
02:56Scilly Isles but a widespread frost elsewhere where we've got clear skies and lighter winds
03:01compared with the forthcoming night. Then we go into Thursday, actually plenty of bright
03:07weather around, some dense fog patches first thing but otherwise blue skies for much of
03:12England, especially in the east and for southern Scotland and Northern Ireland as well. Further
03:17wintry showers into northern Scotland and some rain showers affecting the south-west
03:21after a damp start for Cornwall, a lot more cloud here as well as for west Wales. Temperatures
03:27not far from Wednesdays however, four to six in the south, three or four further north.
03:32Then if I step back you can see an area of cloud and outbreaks of rain starting to approach
03:37from the west. That brings a change into the weekend, a change to cloudier, more damp weather
03:43but also rising temperatures, albeit very slowly rising temperatures. Find out more
03:49as always on our social media channels, especially on YouTube.
