00:00Hello again. Blue skies Monday for many of us today, another fine winter's day with plenty
00:05of sunshine across most of the country, although not all of the country seeing that sunshine.
00:11There is a lot more cloud for the far north and west of Scotland and some patchy cloud
00:15into parts of northern England as well, particularly towards the west. Otherwise, after a cold
00:19start it is a largely sunny day and for the vast majority it's staying dry as well. Temperatures
00:26around average for the time of year feeling quite pleasant in that sunshine with light
00:30winds and of course under those clear skies and with light winds overnight, quite quickly
00:34those temperatures will drop away widely, fog forming especially across central, eastern
00:40and southern parts of England into east Wales as well. Cloudier skies for Scotland, Northern
00:45Ireland and increasingly some cloud drifting into the south and south west of England.
00:50Where we see that happen, fog and frost will be kept at bay but where we keep the clear
00:54skies and the freezing fog, temperatures falling below freezing, several degrees below
00:59freezing in towns and cities as low as minus five in the countryside. So cold start to
01:04Tuesday, a freezing start with that fog slow to clear especially across central and eastern
01:09parts of England whilst cloud steadily pushes in from the south and that will help to clear
01:15the fog. Where that happens it will lift into low cloud before dispersing. Cloud also thickening
01:19for Scotland, Northern Ireland, north west England with some outbreaks of rain pushing
01:24into the north west and a strengthening wind, the wind picking up towards the far west as
01:28well. Some mist patches remaining towards central and eastern parts of England, otherwise
01:33bright or sunny spells here but for many it's a much cloudier day by the afternoon compared
01:38to Monday afternoon and as a result it won't feel quite so pleasant but temperatures not
01:42far off what we're seeing through Monday. The rain tending to be on and off for central
01:48and western parts of Scotland into Northern Ireland, north west England during the evening
01:51but eventually some more persistent wet weather will push south across Scotland, a couple
01:57of weather fronts moving through and they'll move south across the whole of the UK during
02:02Tuesday night and into the first part of Wednesday. As you can see they're coming in along the
02:07eastern side of this area of high pressure which tends to build back in once the fronts
02:12clear. So the main impact of these weather fronts, because they won't contain a huge
02:16amount of rainfall, is that they clear the sky to colder but also brighter weather for
02:22Thursday and into Friday. So further overnight frosts and sunshine by day as we end the week.
