00:00Hi there, sunny for some, cloudy for many others, but the common theme will be the continued
00:06cold feel. We've got this easterly breeze in many places, particularly brisk across
00:12southern areas, although that is where the best of the blue skies will be through the
00:15rest of Wednesday. Elsewhere, a lot of cloud and that cloud is thick enough to give some
00:19outbreaks of light rain or snow for northern Scotland and light rain across northern England,
00:25southern Scotland, Wales, a few flakes of snow over the hills. Much of this is light
00:30and it's on and off through the day. For much of the UK, it's generally dry and settled.
00:36There will be some sunny spells for western Scotland as the cloud breaks up over the Grampians
00:40and Highlands and the best of the sunshine will be in the south, but as I mentioned,
00:45with that wind coming from the east, it's going to feel cold. Temperatures at their
00:49highest 5 degrees in some places, those temperatures will remain at 2, 3, 4 Celsius, perhaps staying
00:55below freezing over the top of Dartmoor or somewhere like that. But either way, it is
00:59cold and it continues to be cold overnight with the clear skies in the south, a widespread
01:04frost developing as the sun goes down and a touch of frost for western Scotland as well.
01:11Generally in the frostier areas, minus 1 to minus 4 Celsius, the breeze keeping things
01:17a little higher than they would be otherwise without the breeze. Generally, with the cloudy
01:23skies elsewhere, it's frost free for east Wales, northern and northeast England, eastern
01:28Scotland, 3 to 5 Celsius as we begin Thursday. We'll still see one or two drizzly showers
01:35in the northeast as we begin Thursday, but they will fade through the day and the wind
01:39eases as well as high pressure drifts a little bit further south across western Scotland
01:45into Northern Ireland. That will also change the distribution of cloud cover through Thursday
01:50into Friday, increasing the cloud further south, lessening the cloud further north across
01:55Scotland. But we start the day with clear skies once again for southern parts of the
02:00UK, a widespread frost as I mentioned, taking some time for temperatures to rise through
02:06the morning. Increasingly sunny skies for Scotland, especially for the central belt
02:12northwards into the afternoon. But the areas of cloud across northern England in two parts
02:17of Wales and the Midlands drift south into the south and southeast by the afternoon,
02:21staying sunny for the likes of Pembrokeshire, Devon and Cornwall nevertheless. And it's
02:26going to stay chilly everywhere again with that easterly breeze, but temperatures a degree
02:30or so up compared with Wednesday afternoon and fewer showers. I think for most, it will
02:34be a dry afternoon. Into Thursday evening, we'll continue to see that cloud drift its
02:40way southwestwards. Some uncertainty about the precise distribution of the cloud by this
02:44stage, but clearest skies remaining towards the very far southwest and more clear skies
02:51across Scotland. So a more widespread frost to come on Thursday night into Friday morning
02:55across Scotland and increasingly Northern Ireland as the centre of the high meanders
03:00around. But by Friday and into Saturday, that high drifts to the northwest of the UK with
03:06low pressure over Scandinavia. That means the winds coming directly from the Arctic,
03:11bringing much colder air by the end of the weekend. Significant snow showers building
03:16up across northern Scotland elsewhere. Sunnier skies once the cold front is cleared. But
03:21into next week, there's the chance of some substantial snow in some places. Uncertainty
03:26at the moment on the details of that. But if you head to our YouTube channel, you'll
03:30see the 10-day trend later on Wednesday explain much more.
