10 January - National weather forecast presented by Clare Nasir
Transcript
00:00Welcome to your latest national weather forecast from the Met Office.
00:04Wednesday will be a blustery day with some sunshine and plenty of showers and
00:09the weather remains pretty mixed for the next few days. One air of low pressure
00:12pulling away, more following on behind. Further weather fronts bringing more
00:16persistent rain during Wednesday night and Thursday and this low bringing more
00:20showers during Friday and all the while the ice bars close together across the
00:25UK. It is going to remain blustery through the rest of this working week.
00:29Let's rewind the clock and put a bit of detail on for the next couple of days.
00:34This first low pressure is particularly bringing strong winds across northern
00:38Scotland through the night. We have a Met Office yellow warning in place here.
00:42Gusts of 65 to 70 miles an hour maybe over the Northern Isles 75 miles an hour.
00:47That could cause some disruption certainly to ferry services along with
00:51public transport issues and there's more showers to come across the
00:55Northwest as well. Heavy and frequent showers on those blustery winds.
01:00Elsewhere enough of a breeze to stop temperatures falling too far, wet weather
01:03clearing through so many places actually starting Wednesday dry but it won't
01:08necessarily last. Some early sunshine for sure over parts of eastern England but
01:12showers in the West hit and miss initially but then we'll see more of a
01:17band of showers working in across Northern Ireland then through Wales
01:21western parts of England by around lunchtime and then spreading over the
01:24Midlands and the eastern parts of England during the afternoon. So heavy
01:28showers hail and thunder is possible but it won't rain all day there'll be some
01:32drier and brighter spells. The showers tending to move through fairly briskly
01:36because of the winds. Now the winds will be easing a little across northern parts
01:40of Scotland but still a blustery day and that will bring a cooler feel to
01:44proceedings. Temperatures certainly lower than Tuesday's values close to average
01:49actually or maybe 10 or 11 across the far southwest but again not feeling that
01:53warm because of the wind. Now we'll see the showers merging in the southwest to
01:58a more prolonged spell of rain during Wednesday evening that'll cross the
02:02southern half of the UK and with the ground pretty saturated across Wales and
02:06southwest England further rain to come here not just on Wednesday night but
02:10again on Thursday could cause some problems so we have another Met Office
02:13yellow warning in place. A band of heavy rain then will cross Northern Ireland
02:17and spread across Scotland and England and Wales during the day on Thursday.
02:21Again something brighter following on behind but also a whole host of showers
02:26packing into the northwest and all the while it'll stay blustery and gusty.
02:31Temperatures may well tick up again on Thursday back above average and double
02:35digits for many maybe even into the teens in the south but again it will
02:39feel very mild with the wind and the rain. And the winds will strengthen
02:42further you can see the swirl here that's that area of low pressure we saw
02:46as the isobar squeezed together the winds could get very lively on Thursday
02:50evening over parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland especially that's something
02:54we'll keep a close eye on. There are warnings in place you can keep an eye on
02:58those yourself if you visit our app or our website and of course there's always
03:03more if you follow us right across social media.
