8 December - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there, the weather stays windy today in the wake of Storm Barra, but gradually any
00:05showers and more prolonged rain, the strongest of the winds, will start to ease with a greater
00:11chance of some drier interludes, particularly across parts of south-east and north-west
00:17UK. It's around this storm which is slowly filling now where we've got the strongest
00:22winds, north-east Scotland in two parts of Northern Ireland, western England and Wales.
00:27For west Wales as well as south-west and southern England, the risk of 65 mph wind gusts, so
00:33a continued risk of disruption in these spots, wind warning in force. And around that low
00:38as well, a continuous feed of showers, north-east Scotland, northern Ireland, parts of western
00:43England and Wales, and for mid Wales in particular, more prolonged rain through the day, some
00:48high rainfall totals in places. But there will be some drier weather out there as well
00:53as south-east England as well as western Scotland seeing the best of any drier interludes.
00:58Wherever you are, however, where we've got that blustery breeze blowing through, it is
01:03going to feel cold, 5-8 Celsius at best. Into the evening, the showers in the west do make
01:09some progress further east for a time, perhaps reaching the east of England, and there'll
01:14be some showers turning up in western Scotland. But on the whole, showers are going to ease
01:19through the night. There'll be some clear skies at times, particularly across northern
01:23parts of the UK, and winds will ease. So where we get some shelter from the wind, where we
01:28get some clear spells, there will be a touch of frost, particularly across sheltered parts
01:32of northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England. So a chilly start in places as we
01:37begin Thursday. A bright start though where we've got that sunshine first thing. A lot
01:41of cloud though and a continuous feed of showers once again for western Scotland, north-west
01:46England during the morning. Gradually, this area of cloud moves east and breaks up. A
01:52good chance of sunshine breaking through for eastern Scotland, eastern England by the afternoon.
01:57Whilst further west, it turns increasingly cloudy and a band of rain moves in here by
02:01the afternoon. A breeze coming in from the west though will cause those temperatures
02:06to rise. So 11 or 12 Celsius in the southwest, milder than it has been staying on the cold
02:12side further east. And the rain continues to move its way eastwards during Thursday
02:16evening, falling as snow over the Scottish mountains. But the rain not really causing
02:21too much trouble. It's generally light on and off and there'll be some drier weather
02:27following with showers heading into western parts of the UK by the end of the night. Of
02:33course, we'll keep you updated as always on social media and you can follow those updates
02:36on these channels. Bye bye.
