00:00Hi there and welcome to the latest from the Met Office. A cold start to Tuesday across
00:04the UK, frost and fog fairly widely in many places before cloudier skies tend to lift
00:10the fog and recover those temperatures later. But Monday begins, or at least Monday night
00:16begins with clear skies fairly widely across the country, dense fog forming quite quickly
00:21after the sun goes down, particularly for central and eastern parts of England, east
00:24Wales. I think there will be some areas of cloud complicating the picture towards the
00:28south-west, a mix of mist, fog and low cloud here whilst cloudier skies and a bit more
00:34of a breeze for Scotland and Northern Ireland, so remaining frost and fog largely clear here
00:40but a few pockets of frost still possible, particularly towards the east of Scotland,
00:44parts of Northern Ireland. So a chilly start to the day for many places, temperatures as
00:49low as minus five Celsius in some sheltered parts of England and Wales and those dense
00:54fog patches to watch out for if you're on the roads, first thing for example, some poor
00:58visibility and that continuing into the afternoon in some parts of central and eastern England
01:02but otherwise I think enough cloud will start to drift in from the south to lift the fog.
01:07It will stay bright however and for Scotland and Northern Ireland dry at first but thicker
01:12cloud here as well, a freshening breeze, outbreaks of rain pushing in from the west as we end
01:17the afternoon. Mildest again towards the north-west, a bit colder further south, particularly where
01:21we keep those fog patches into the late morning, early afternoon period. But for many it's
01:26a cloudy night on Tuesday as areas of cloud move up from the south, this other weather
01:31front pushing cloud and outbreaks of rain in from the north-west, some persistent wet
01:35weather over the West Highlands but generally this is a showery feature, not giving a huge
01:40amount of rain, pushed on by a brisk breeze so clearing quite quickly. And as we start
01:45off Wednesday because of the larger amounts of cloud I think across the UK, less widespread
01:51frost and fog but still a few pockets possible towards the south and the north of that weather
01:56front. It does turn things colder as it moves south across the country, a bit of an Arctic
02:03plunge but only ever so brief because high pressure will be moving back in for the end
02:09of the week. You can see the blues on the map fairly widely though for the middle part
02:14of Wednesday as these weather fronts clear but Wednesday is a less cold start to the
02:19day because of the cloud in the sky for England and Wales. Outbreaks of showery rain petering
02:24out by the afternoon and clearing quite nicely I think for most places after lunch. Sunny
02:29spells follow, a brisk and cold wind comes down from the north-north-west and that will
02:34bring with it some wintry showers for northern Scotland, temperatures dropping away through
02:39the day in many places as well as that colder air arrives. A cold day to come on Thursday
02:45feeling particularly cold with a strong wind in the east but high pressure building back
02:50in so it's going to be largely settled as we end the week and go into the weekend. Much
02:54more on that on the UK forecast for the week ahead and you can catch that on the Met Office
03:00YouTube channel and you can follow all the updates on social media. Bye-bye.
