22 April - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hello, yet another dry April day for the vast majority and sunny skies for most as well.
00:07One complication is it will be fairly breezy across the southwest. We're on the periphery
00:12of the high there as the high drifts into East Anglia, southern parts of the North Sea.
00:16Otherwise, that high pressure keeping weather fronts away, keeping things dry and sunny
00:21for the vast majority. It's a relatively dry high, so dew points are low and that means
00:27in this breeze to the southwest, it's going to feel cool. But out with the breeze, long
00:32spells of sunshine. That sun is strong, so high UV levels in the south, moderate further
00:36north. But some cloud cover there for the far north of Scotland, along with one or two
00:41showers for Shetland, perhaps nine degrees for Shetland. And 10 to 13 around some of
00:46these exposed eastern and southern coasts, feeling cool with an onshore breeze here.
00:52Inland, those temperatures getting up to 14 to 18 Celsius, the highest temperatures
00:58to the west of Scotland, Northern Ireland and perhaps Northern England. We keep the
01:03clear skies well into the evening and overnight. Just some cloud for the far north and northeast
01:08of Scotland, one or two further showers for Shetland. Otherwise, a widespread frost forming
01:13and temperatures as low as minus one to minus three, fairly widely I think, away from main
01:18urban centres. But those temperatures kept a little bit higher where we keep the breeze
01:22going around the southwest. Wind gusts here of 45 miles per hour, perhaps over the moors
01:29and just to the west of the moors as well. Nevertheless, a chilly start for most of us
01:35on Friday morning. Yet another sunny start to the day, barely a cloud in the sky. And
01:41it's, well, very similar really to Thursday with still some cloud cover in the far north
01:47and some showers for Shetland, perhaps the odd spot of drizzle. But further south, widespread
01:53sunny skies, still a breeze in the southwest of England, especially western parts of Devon
01:59and Cornwall. And it's going to continue to feel cool where we've got that onshore breeze.
02:05But inland, those temperatures a little bit higher compared to Thursday. We're talking
02:08about 15 to perhaps 19 Celsius, the warmest spots, south and west Wales and again, parts
02:14of western Scotland. Friday evening continues to see clear skies and just some cloud there
02:21for the north and north-east of Scotland. Otherwise, it stays dry for the vast majority
02:25and under those clear skies, once again, a widespread frost forming to greet us as we
02:30start off the weekend. Catch up on all the latest by following the Met Office on social
02:35media but that's all I have for now.
