00:00Hello again. Scattered showers are expected in many places during the rest of today.
00:05There will be some sunshine around as well and then under clear skies a frosty night to come tonight.
00:11It was a very cold night last night and some places woke up to snow.
00:15This little feature crossed Wales and then central and southern England to bring a covering of snow to many places
00:22and three centimetres was recorded at Little Rissington in Oxfordshire.
00:26Now that's moving out of the way now, it's moving southwards, it's breaking up into showers
00:30and you can see the distribution of showers by mid-morning across southern and western areas
00:35and further wintry showers to come there, a mixture of rain, sleet and snow for the north and north-east of Scotland
00:41along with some sunny spells, a strong northerly wind making it feel cold here.
00:45Northern Ireland, Wales, southern England seeing a lot of cloud cover
00:49and further showers mainly of rain away from the higher ground
00:53but in between sunny spells for central, southern Scotland, northern and eastern England.
00:59We'll still feel cold I think for the rest of Monday
01:02but temperatures just about managing up to 10 or 11 Celsius in the south, 8 or 9 further north and east.
01:10And then the cloud breaks up readily into the evening.
01:13Widely we're going to see a frost form across northern and eastern parts of the UK
01:18I think with some cloud and some showers for western parts of northern Ireland
01:22and some fog patches forming towards the south-west.
01:25Here the frost will be a bit more patchy, lows of 3 or 4 Celsius generally
01:30but minus 1 to minus 2 Celsius in the towns and cities in the north and east
01:35and as low as minus 7 to minus 9 degrees across the countryside parts of northern England, central and southern Scotland.
01:43So a cold start to Tuesday but despite the widespread frost
01:46actually long sunny spells are expected across central and eastern areas in particular.
01:51The cloud will quickly build further west and we'll see further showers breaking out by day.
01:56Just about anywhere could get a shower but most likely areas are going to be southern, western parts of the UK
02:02northern Ireland in particular, northern England the odd sharp shower here.
02:06The showers will form I think in lines and so some areas will miss them entirely
02:11other areas will get one after the other through the afternoon
02:15temperatures are nudging up a little day by day this week
02:18so we'll see highs of 13 perhaps 14 Celsius around London and double figures elsewhere
02:24so not feeling as cold as it has done recently.
02:28The cloud then clears into Tuesday evening and another widespread frost is likely
02:33the showers restricted to coastal areas by the middle of the night
02:37and high pressure remains with us through the week
02:41we'll still see a few showers around but eventually those showers become lighter
02:46and for many it's looking largely dry during the next few days.
02:51Now with that high pressure slowly drifting to the east will pull in a bit more of a southwesterly
02:56and that will lift temperatures by the end of the week only closer to average I think
03:02so those temperatures gradually recovering following that cold and wintry start to the week
03:07With high pressure in charge it's set to be mostly dry with some sunny spells.
