12 April - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.
Transcript
00:00Hi there, we've seen some wet weather in places and that rain is moving north
00:04across the UK during the rest of the day followed by a mixture of bright spells
00:09and showers. The weather fairly unsettled at the moment with the low pressure
00:12sitting to the southwest that's bringing these areas of rain or showers
00:16northwards also bringing relatively mild air north but it's been a chilly start
00:22for parts of Scotland and here also we've seen areas of rain, this is the
00:26satellite and radar from earlier, we've seen outbreaks of rain moving north
00:30across the far north of Scotland that will stick around for some time across
00:33Shetland whilst the next band of rain moves into parts of northern England
00:37southern and central Scotland as well as Northern Ireland through the day.
00:41Brighter skies elsewhere, a good deal of cloud but with some sunshine coming
00:45through for northern and northwest Scotland and also for southern parts of
00:50the country but as temperatures rise here you can see some heavy downpours
00:54especially for Wales in the southwest. We're looking at highs of 19 to 20
00:59Celsius towards the southeast whilst it will be notably cold for the coast of
01:04northeast Scotland and northeast England particularly when the persistent wet
01:09weather arrives during the afternoon and early evening. Northwest Scotland seen
01:13some shelter and highs of 13 Celsius here but across much of Scotland it's a
01:18wet night when that rain persisting and turning heavy at times for eastern parts
01:23of the country. Elsewhere a lot of cloud remaining, some clear spells but fairly
01:28misty murky around southern and western coasts of the UK and also around the
01:33North Sea coast of northeast Scotland with that rain hanging on but of course
01:37with the cloud and the rain and the wind temperatures holding up we're looking at
01:4210 or 11 Celsius first thing for England and Wales, 5 to 6 for Scotland and
01:47Northern Ireland. It's a dull and damp start then for many, a lot of low cloud
01:52mist and fog around some southern and western coasts. It will slowly brighten
01:57up inland and the rain for northeast Scotland eventually peters out but a
02:02good deal of cloud remains I think for eastern Scotland whilst sunny spells
02:06emerge elsewhere and as temperatures rise heavy showers will develop
02:11particularly for the heart of England and Wales, eastern Wales as well as
02:15central England seeing the potential for some fairly lively downpours. Away from
02:20the showers though high teens and in places low 20s could see a 22 Celsius
02:25somewhere from say the West Country through to the east of England and
02:30further north it will be also a little milder compared to Tuesday with the wind
02:36coming in from a different direction and taking that rain away with it. So on
02:40Wednesday night clear spells breaking out, still a few showers continuing
02:44especially towards the northeast but otherwise a drier interlude and on
02:49Thursday a brighter skies for many and that warm weather continues into the
02:54start of the Easter weekend.
