00:00Hi there and welcome to the latest from the Met Office. There will be some sunshine today
00:05but an awful lot of cloud for many and it will turn increasingly wet in the northwest.
00:11In fact, the earlier satellite and radar image shows that the wet weather is already pushing
00:15into northern and western Scotland and it's knocking on the door of Northern Ireland as
00:20well. A lot of cloud ahead of that, this zone of cloud and some showery rain associated
00:26with a weakening weather front and these showers will continue to push southwards across the
00:31Midlands. Generally light at first but some heavier downpours will break out across parts
00:37of mid Wales into the Midlands, eastern England as well into the afternoon. Either side of
00:43this zone of cloud, some brightness, some sunshine there for the far southeastern, more
00:48especially northern England and north Wales where the top temperatures will be 24 Celsius.
00:54Meanwhile, it's after a bright start, it's going to turn increasingly wet for Northern
00:59Ireland, southwest Scotland as well and some dribs and drabs of rain extending across the
01:03rest of Scotland, a lot of cloud here. Now this area of cloud and rain pushes south,
01:08showers further south die away for a time but the wet weather swings its way into central
01:14and then eventually southeastern parts of the country overnight. Followed on by generally
01:19cloudy skies but some breaks possible for Northern Ireland, west and Scotland. However,
01:23on the whole, it's a mild night, 13 or 14 Celsius for many. A series of weather fronts
01:30then are crossing the country, moving northwest to southeast on Friday morning, nudging this
01:36area of high pressure out of the way, low pressure now in charge and the weather fronts
01:40provide the focus for the more persistent wet weather with generally showery and cloudy
01:46conditions elsewhere. So a damp start to the day for parts of eastern and southeastern
01:51England. The rain moves along by mid-morning followed by showers but the more persistent
01:56rain holds on for northeast as well as southeast Scotland. Some outbreaks of rain push into
02:01western Scotland at times. Otherwise, it does turn brighter through the day, there'll be
02:06some sunshine appearing especially for south Wales, southwest England. However, as temperatures
02:10rise, there's some instability in the air so for the Midlands into central southern
02:14England and then later for southeast England, the risk of some heavy showers break out,
02:19even some thundery downpours in places. These will be slow moving where they hit, potential
02:25for some lively weather. Grey and damp weather continues though for much of Scotland, especially
02:30towards the east where it will feel cool, 12 to 14 Celsius. It's more towards the south
02:35where we'll reach the 20s but even here, it's all down to whether we get enough sunshine
02:41and avoid the showers. Into the evening, the showers continue their slow progress eastwards
02:47before eventually fading away, clear spells then for a time across southern parts of the
02:52UK. But it's in the south this weekend where the focus will be for some particularly heavy
02:57showers at times further north that eventually turns drier and brighter by Sunday and Monday.
