00:00Hello there. Welcome to the latest broadcast from the Met Office. A big change in the weather
00:04over the last 24 hours or so. Wet, windy, mild weather has returned for many after what
00:10has been a good few weeks of very cold weather. Through the rest of the week and into the
00:14Christmas period though, it does look like it might turn a little bit colder again across
00:17the north of the UK. A bit of uncertainty of where this boundary may lie between milder
00:22air to the south, colder air to the north. So, stay tuned to the forecast over the coming
00:27days.
00:28So, through the rest of Monday evening, bands of heavy rain continue to push across parts
00:31of England and Wales. A Met Office warning in place until six o'clock in the morning
00:36on Tuesday. Clearer skies do follow during the early hours across the north and the west
00:41and under these clearer skies, temperatures do dip away. Single figures down to around
00:45three or four Celsius, perhaps a touch of frost in any sheltered spots. But blustery
00:50showers from the word go continue across the far north-west of Scotland. Also, a wet start
00:55across south-east England. Overnight rain generally clearing by mid-morning. Brighter
01:00skies following, so overall Tuesday a brighter day than Monday. Sunny spells and scattered
01:05showers. Showers most frequent across the north-west of the UK, north-west Scotland
01:09into Northern Ireland. Some frequent showers here, heavy at times, accompanied by blustery
01:14winds. The wind cells were lighter compared to Monday. Temperatures just coming down a
01:18notch though. We saw highs of around 16 degrees across parts of Wales on Monday, more like
01:2310 or 11 as a high. Still a little bit above average for the time of year. Single figures
01:28across Northern Ireland and much of Scotland. Through Tuesday evening, dry initially. However,
01:35we will look towards the Atlantic for more weather systems moving in. Outbreaks of heavy
01:38rain moving into Wales, Northern England, south-west England too. This pushing its way
01:43slowly eastwards into the early hours of Wednesday morning. Showers continuing across Northern
01:48Ireland and Scotland. Frequent and heavy and blustery winds too. This will stop temperatures
01:53from dropping too low. Most places staying above freezing under any prolonged clear spells.
01:58We could see a touch of frost but most places frost free to start Wednesday. And that's
02:03due to the cloud and the rain. This pushes its way slowly eastwards through Wednesday
02:07morning. Sunshine following but also a scattering of showers. Again, showers most frequent and
02:12heavy across parts of Northern Ireland up into Scotland. The odd rumble of thunder is
02:16possible. And in between the sunny spells, well it should lift temperatures in the south
02:21to around 10, 11 or 12 Celsius. But for many, generally between 7 and 9 Celsius. So in the
02:26breeze feeling a little chilly. And that chilly theme will continue as we head towards the
02:31Christmas weekend. So quite a bit of detail still to be ironed out. But if you'd like
02:35more information on that and the weather where you are over the next few days, you can follow
02:39us on our social media channels. I'll see you again soon.
