19 March - National weather forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst.
Transcript
00:00Hello there. Welcome to the latest broadcast from the Met Office. It's been a beautiful
00:04start across much of the UK, plenty of blue skies. The cloud amounts are starting to build
00:10a little. The moment we've got this ridge of high pressure across the UK giving the
00:14settled weather. However, low pressure lies just to the west of us and this is just starting
00:19to creep towards us, already evident across parts of Northern Ireland, Western Scotland
00:23with some outbreaks of rain here. Through the rest of the day, well, a bright day for
00:27much of the UK, some sunny spells, though cloud amounts are increasing. Outbreaks of
00:32rain though for Northern Ireland spreading into western parts of Scotland through the
00:35rest of the day, though generally light and patchy, perhaps a few heavier bursts over
00:39the higher ground. And temperatures a little lower today compared to yesterday, but still
00:44highs around 13 degrees in the best of the sunnier spells in the east and south. Into
00:50the evening time, this rain pushes eastwards across parts of Scotland, stretching into
00:54northern England. It could be heavy at times over the hills of Cumbria up into south-west
00:59Scotland too, some localised flooding possible. Elsewhere, a lot of cloud around, some damp
01:04weather spreading into parts of Wales, south-west England, some drizzle here. But with a lot
01:08of cloud around across the whole of the country, it won't be a very cold night. Temperatures
01:13holding up, generally a frost-free start to Monday morning. But that means quite grey
01:17skies, a different picture to what we saw this Sunday morning. Outbreaks of rain across
01:22Northern Ireland, southern Scotland, northern England could be heavy at times over the hills,
01:26some tricky driving conditions here as this system slowly pushes northwards. Further weather
01:30systems moving in from the south and west too. In between, we've got this drier slot,
01:35some brighter spells possible here. And also, just to the north of the weather front for
01:39northern and eastern Scotland, some bright spells here. Temperatures across northern
01:43Scotland, 9 or 10 degrees in the best of any sunshine. Between weather systems across central
01:48parts, we could reach 14 or 15 degrees. As we head through the next few days, it does
01:53turn wetter and windier. We're likely to see some longer spells of rain. Temperatures generally
01:58around average, but it is the rain and the wind will concentrate on some large waves
02:02around the coasts in the west. And rainfall totals building as the week goes on could
02:06lead to some localised flooding. So, there is some unsettled weather in the outlook.
