29 March - national forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst
Transcript
00:00Hello, there. We've got a north-west-south-east split with our weather at the moment. If you're
00:05across parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, western parts of England and Wales, it's quite
00:09cloudy with some outbreaks of rain. Above the south-east, it's dry for now until the
00:12weather front slips its way southwards. But the good news is if you like the dry weather,
00:17it continues to end March and into the beginning of April as well as high pressure becomes
00:22established across many parts, so little in the way of rain. However, at the moment, we
00:26do have rain across parts of Northern Ireland, Scotland, some snow as well across the highest
00:30ground of Scotland here, and then this rain band just slowly slipping its way south-eastwards
00:35as we go through the afternoon. Into the evening time, outbreaks of rain could be heavy at
00:38times across the high ground of Northern England, northern parts of Wales too. Best of the sunshine
00:43holding on across eastern parts of the Midlands down into East Anglia, south-east England
00:47here. They're turning increasingly hazy later. The wind's turning increasingly strong across
00:52north-western parts of the UK, some local gales around the coast as well. So it'll just
00:56take the edge off the temperatures a little bit. It will feel cool under the cloud and
01:00patchy rain with temperatures on the face of it reaching double figures, 15, 16 Celsius
01:05in the best of the sunshine towards the south-east, but feeling quite chilly under that cloud.
01:10Into the evening time, this weather front continues to slip its way south-eastwards,
01:13but it does bump into a ridge of high pressure, so much of the rain is squeezed out of it.
01:17It becomes more an area of cloud and drizzle as it pushes south-eastwards, with then clear
01:21spells following on behind overnight. Further showers, though, across northern Scotland
01:26and it does remain quite blustery with north-westerly winds across the whole of the country. But
01:30that will keep temperatures up for many of us, 7 to 9 Celsius. So not a cold night to
01:36come. Some sheltered spots are a little lower than this, but that means there'll be some
01:39bright spells to start Sunday morning. Any early rain clearing the south-east and then
01:44showers largely restricted to northern parts of Scotland as we go through the day. Plenty
01:50of sunshine developing for many. The wind's still coming in from the north, still brisk
01:54down the east coast. That northerly wind could bring some large waves to coastal stretches,
01:59so do take care here. But further west, winds will fall lighter, though clouds starting
02:04to thicken across parts of Northern Ireland later on. And temperature-wise, generally
02:09similar again, 13 to 15, locally 16 or 17 Celsius. So in sheltered spots in that sunshine,
02:15which is starting to strengthen at this time of the year, it will feel fairly pleasant
02:20out there. But most places having a dry end to the day as well. Just one or two showers
02:24across the far north, but these easing. And then a weak weather front bringing some thicker
02:28cloud across the far north-west of the UK later on. But most places dry. Perhaps local
02:34frost overnight into Monday morning. But overall, generally staying dry as high pressure builds
02:40in next week. See you soon.
