30 April - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Following the dry April so far, there is some rain in the forecast for this bank holiday
00:05weekend. You can see it approaching just to the north-west of the UK there on Friday night.
00:11But for much of the country, it's clear skies overnight and temperatures falling away. A
00:16chilly night to come for much of southern and eastern Scotland, England and Wales. Under
00:21those clear skies, a touch of frost forming in places. Two Celsius there in Birmingham,
00:26three in London, lower than that in the countryside. But for northern and western Scotland, for
00:32Northern Ireland, cloudy skies arrive and frost free here, but some rain soon enough
00:39for Saturday morning because of these weather fronts. This is a low pressure system that's
00:43going to push the high further south through the weekend and bring a small amount of rain
00:48with it. Most of the rain will affect northern and western Scotland and Northern Ireland
00:52during Saturday. And initially light, but turning heavier around western coasts and
00:58hills through the day. Eastern and southern Scotland turn cloudy and damp through the
01:03afternoon as well, perhaps reaching Cumbria by the afternoon. But further south, we keep
01:08the sunny spells and with a different wind direction, well, it's going to be a warmer
01:13day for many, particularly in the east. 16, 17, perhaps 18 Celsius if we get enough sunshine.
01:19So a marked contrast compared to the 11 and 12 Celsius that we've seen in the east of
01:23England during the last few days. Not feeling quite so pleasant as the cloud and rain arrives
01:28in the north and that rain topples south into parts of Wales, northern England and then
01:33eventually the southwest during Saturday night. It avoids the southeast, some clear spells
01:39sticking around here and clearing skies as well for parts of central Scotland. But on
01:43the whole, enough cloud to prevent a frost, I think. So a much milder start to Sunday,
01:49but a gloomier start with a lot of cloud. Some of that cloud would be low enough to
01:53cover hills and we'll see those outbreaks of rain as well across a large part of England
01:58and Wales. I think mostly on the dry side on Sunday in the far southeast and also drying
02:04up and brightening up for Scotland and Northern Ireland. A few showers developing through
02:08the afternoon, likewise for Northern England eventually. But further south, well, it's
02:13dreary and damp and the wettest conditions I think will be across parts of Wales and
02:18the southwest, which will really limit temperatures here. 10, 11 Celsius at best, I think, under
02:24that rain, but a slightly warmer feel further north where we've got the brighter skies compared
02:29to Saturday. Then come Bank Holiday Monday. Well, it looks like there'll be brighter skies
02:35on the whole across the UK. Still a lot of cloud cover, but a few showers will develop
02:39in places as well. Those showers are fairly hit and miss and away from those showers,
02:44it will feel like a slightly warmer day as well. Temperatures around the mid-teens on
02:49the whole. That's all for me, but as always, you can stay up to date by following the Met
02:53Office on social media. Bye bye.
