29 April - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.

00:00Hello again, this dry April continues, another fine day for most, but I suspect there'll
00:05be a big difference depending on whether you're stuck under cloud or whether you've got the
00:09sunshine.
00:10The cloudier areas tending to be eastern and central parts of England, also central parts
00:15of Scotland where there could be a shower over the Highlands or Grampians, otherwise
00:18plenty of bright spells or sunshine, especially Western Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales
00:25and Western England.
00:26Where we've got the sunshine, 15, 16, perhaps even 17 Celsius, but where we've got a bit
00:31of a cool breeze from the east and stubborn areas of cloud, just 11 or 12 degrees for
00:37example Norwich and London.
00:40Into the evening the cloud does break up, it does sink south, so some lengthy clear
00:44spells developing, especially for much of England and Wales and under those clear skies
00:49with light winds a frost will form in sheltered spots.
00:53That's for Scotland, for Northern Ireland cloud will arrive, particularly in the west
00:57and that'll keep temperatures up, so I think for Belfast, Glasgow it's dawn away 7 or 8
01:02degrees, but it's elsewhere where we start off fairly chilly this weekend with that frost
01:07in places.
01:08High pressure holding on on Saturday, so for the vast majority it's a fine start to the
01:13weekend under that high pressure, but these weather fronts are coming along and they're
01:16thickening up the cloud, they're bringing some outbreaks of rain and so soon enough
01:20during Saturday morning Northern Ireland, Western and Northern Scotland will see outbreaks
01:25of rain and that rain turning heavier, especially around Western coast of Scotland and then
01:29later on over the higher ground.
01:32Eastern and Southern Scotland bright at first before cloud and rain arrive later, but for
01:36much of England and Wales after that sunny start, well it's a decent looking day with
01:41sunny spells and a warmer feel I think, particularly in the east, 17, 18 Celsius if possible, so
01:49a significant contrast for that east coast compared to recent days with the warm sunshine.
01:55But for Scotland and Northern Ireland, well those outbreaks of rain continue throughout
01:58much of Saturday night, slowly stumbling their way southwards into parts of Northern England,
02:04North Wales by midnight and the cloud thickening and coming further south.
02:09So less frosty night on Saturday night, but Sunday sees those outbreaks of rain and the
02:14thicker cloud pushed south. Not a huge amount of rain, not particularly helpful to farmers
02:19and gardeners I suspect, but a damp day for some on Sunday nevertheless.
