00:00Hi there. As far as this weekend's weather is concerned, one thing that most of us will
00:05have in common is it will be a fine start to the weekend before cloud and rain moves
00:10into some places. There will be some cloud and rain overnight Friday, mostly in the form
00:16of showers, blustery showers for the north and north-west of Scotland, a continuation
00:20of what we've seen through the day. Much of this eases later in the night, still the chance
00:24of a shower or two further south across north-west England and west Wales for example, but for
00:29the vast majority actually it's a clear night. Winds will ease, the lightest winds will be
00:33towards the south and south-eastern here, a few mist patches couldn't be ruled out first
00:37thing Saturday. And it will be a cool start to the day, some might call it chilly because
00:41temperatures in some northern parts where we've got some shelter into the low single
00:45figures, perhaps a touch of grass frost. A bright start then with this area of high pressure
00:49in charge but the next low comes along, sending a weather system into this central swathe
00:54of the UK from central Scotland and towards north Wales. And so for most of us, Saturday
01:00starts off bright before that rain comes in. There'll be a few showers for west Wales again
01:05but also one or two for northern and western Scotland. Otherwise it's sunny skies for the
01:09vast majority, it stays bright into the afternoon for northern Scotland, the Midlands, east
01:14and southern England. But elsewhere the cloud builds and the rain arrives, that rain heavy
01:20and persistent across northern Ireland, southern Scotland, north-west England and north Wales
01:24accompanied by a strong wind, risk of coastal gales around some of these exposed Irish Sea
01:29coasts and certainly feeling fairly unpleasant as those conditions arrive. But towards the
01:35south and south-east, still some warm sunny spells, 19-20, even 21 Celsius. Likewise bright
01:41skies continue for the north of Scotland, less breezy, fewer showers compared with Friday.
01:47We've still got that rain with us as we go into Saturday night, it's going to push further
01:51north into the rest of Scotland, also pushing some outbreaks of rain into the rest of Wales
01:55and south-west England, albeit mostly light and on and off. Towards the south-east it
02:00stays clear, although with a bit more of a breeze around, I don't think we'll see many
02:04mist patches as we begin Sunday, but we will see rather a lot of cloud, that cloud will
02:08be covering the hills in the west, so some hill fog around and some coastal murkiness
02:13as well. Nevertheless, it is going to be a much warmer night compared with the preceding
02:17night, temperatures in the mid-teens in the south, and for northern Scotland with some
02:23clear spells here, single figures, but only just I suspect. Into the start of Sunday,
02:29outbreaks of rain clearing Shetland, and outbreaks of rain also continuing across northern and
02:33western England for a time as well as Wales. But this system does sink south and it weakens,
02:39so by the afternoon it's mostly across the Midlands into the south-west of England where
02:43we'll see some drizzly outbreaks of rain. Brighter skies emerge elsewhere and plenty
02:49of sunny spells through central parts, so after that wet and windy Saturday afternoon,
02:54Sunday afternoon is looking much more promising. Still some showers though for north and north-west
02:58of Scotland and northern parts of Northern Ireland, where it will be fairly blustery
03:02as well, and it's going to feel cool with that breeze, but still some warmth ahead of
03:06the rain in the south-east, 21, perhaps 22 Celsius. Heading into the start of next week,
03:13it stays fairly mixed with showers or longer spells of rain at times, and we'll keep you
03:18updated on all of that right here at the Met Office.
