00:00Hi there, a couple of showery days coming up before a fine day for most of us on Saturday.
00:06At the moment low pressure is still in charge of our weather and the jet stream is dipping
00:10to the south of the UK. All the ingredients there for an unstable atmosphere but the heavier
00:16rain that many of us have seen over the last few days that is clearing into the continent
00:20so it's more a case of sunny spells and showers for the vast majority. Having said that the
00:25showers will be heavy and frequent and perhaps prolonged in parts of southern and south-western
00:30UK. The way Wales, the Midlands and towards the south-west could even see the odd thunderstorm.
00:37Further north, north Wales, northern England, southern Scotland, eastern Scotland faring
00:41best for any drier and brighter interludes but for northern and western Scotland, Northern
00:46Ireland some longer spells of rain move in courtesy of an occluded front and a stiff
00:51breeze there for the far north-west of Scotland, Gales around some exposed coasts of the Outer
00:57Hebrides. Those strong winds will push the heavy rain or showers through across parts
01:02of Scotland and Northern Ireland overnight. Further downpours coming into the west of
01:06Scotland, Northern Ireland, western England and Wales. There will also be some heavy showers
01:11around the coast of south-east England, the heaviest rain most likely staying offshore
01:17but always the chance that the odd thunderstorm could brush close to parts of Kent, Essex,
01:23Suffolk for example. It's a cool night wherever you are, temperatures dipping into the single
01:28figures, mid or even low single figures for some sheltered parts of northern UK. A little
01:34brightish start to the day, some early sunshine for central and eastern parts but showers
01:40from the word go in the west will transfer east through the day, some heavy downpours
01:44in the east of England by the afternoon, even the odd thunderstorm once again. And
01:48with brisk winds, a breezier day I think for most of us, touching gale force around northern
01:53parts of Scotland, it's going to feel on the cool side. Temperatures a degree or two lower
01:58compared with Thursday, mid to high teens generally or even low teens for parts of northern UK.
02:04However, quite quickly on Friday night the showers ease away particularly towards the
02:09west and with widespread clear skies developing and the winds easing a touch, it's going to
02:15be a chilly start to Saturday. In urban areas, mid to high single figures, in shelter spots,
02:22low single figures or even a touch below freezing from mid Wales northwards. Then as we start
02:27off Saturday, bright skies for many despite that cool start. Still a strong wind in the
02:32far north of Scotland but plenty of sunshine elsewhere. The cloud does build through the
02:36day and by the afternoon, rather cloudy skies especially towards western areas. But for
02:41the vast majority, it is dry aside from one or two light showers in the far north. Temperatures
02:46after that chilly start will remain on the cool side, 15, 16 Celsius in the south, 12
02:51to 14 further north. But with light winds and sunny spells, perfectly pleasant for the
02:55time of year. Rain waiting in the wings though out towards the west is going to come in on
03:01Saturday night. Now this spell of wet weather will be focused on Sunday across parts of
03:06western Scotland, Northern Ireland, North West England and Wales, especially over the
03:10higher ground where there could be some substantial amounts of rain between Sunday and early Monday.
03:15This is all circulating around the remnants of Hurricane Nigel. Strong winds developing
03:21on Sunday as well. Now although it's not a hurricane anymore, we will feel the fingerprints
03:26of that tropical moisture in the intensity of the wet weather in the west but also with
03:31increased humidity and warmth arriving into the south and south east where it will stay
03:36a little bit warmer compared with Saturday. Much more online but for now, that's all for
03:41me. Bye bye.
