00:00Hi there, the weekend will start off damp and breezy for many of us. It's not going
00:05to rain all the time everywhere this weekend but certainly there is plenty of
00:09rain moving in from the west already across Northern Ireland pushing into
00:13southwest Scotland during the evening, northwest England and west Wales. The
00:17showers to the far north of Scotland continuing for a time but clear spells
00:21generally for northern Scotland and the southeast of England. A lot of cloud and
00:25spells of rain moving in elsewhere along with a freshening breeze. It's going to
00:29be a milder night, 14-15 Celsius in places. Again the exception northern
00:34Scotland where clear skies and lighter winds will lead to the mid single
00:38figures. However it's here where we'll see the best of any sunshine first thing.
00:42Weather fronts tending to avoid northern Scotland throughout Saturday. They're
00:46going to slide across these central parts. An elongated area of low pressure moving
00:50in from the northwest with tightly packed isobars on its southern flank. So
00:54breezy conditions especially towards the southwest and that low really with us
00:58for the majority of the weekend. Ahead of it some sunshine for southeast England
01:03but it soon turns cloudier with some light outbreaks of rain by the end of
01:07the morning. Likewise for northern Scotland we see sunny skies at first and
01:12temperatures will rise through the morning with some showers developing but
01:16actually that's where the brightest conditions will remain across the rest
01:20of the UK. It's spells of wet weather heaviest and most persistent over
01:24western hills especially the hills of northwest Wales, northwest England and
01:29widely over western hills 20 to 30 millimetres would accumulate through
01:33Saturday. Significantly more in some of the wetter spots across say northwest
01:40Wales for example. All of this is carried along by a strengthening breeze. Strong
01:46winds in particular around exposed southwestern coasts. So watch out for
01:50those if you are heading to the coast or if you're camping this weekend. But
01:55lighter winds further north and really it's slow changes as we go through
02:00Saturday. Now the rain not particularly heavy and persistent during the day
02:04across central and southeastern parts of the UK. It's on and off rainfall and by the
02:09early hours of Sunday the main bands have cleared through but we've got this
02:14moist southwestly airflow so I think a lot of low cloud, some sea mist and some
02:19hill fog as well. Some continuing drizzle in places likewise. The heavier
02:24and more persistent wet weather will remain across central and southern
02:27Scotland, northern England and parts of Northern Ireland. Once again clear skies
02:31for northern Scotland. Cool start here on Sunday but mild start elsewhere with
02:36temperatures at around 15 or 16 Celsius. And again slow changes through Sunday. We
02:42start off with grey skies, we start off with some drizzle in places and some
02:46longer spells of wet weather for northern England and southern Scotland
02:49in particular. Eventually skies do brighten across the southern half of the UK
02:54albeit with some showers developing, hit and miss downpours, some heavy bursts at
02:58times and we've still got this strong southwesterly airflow. However that's
03:02going to be importing milder more humid air from the southwest so temperatures
03:07significantly higher by Sunday especially if we see any cloud breaks
03:1124-25 Celsius always possible if we get those cloud breaks otherwise high teens
03:18low 20s. And for northern Scotland a cool breeze from the north but here again
03:24bright conditions and mostly dry aside from a few showers. It's really through
03:28the central zone, central and southern Scotland, northern England where we see
03:31the persistent rain hanging on through Sunday and those rainfall amounts
03:35totting up through the weekend particularly for the likes of the
03:38Pennines, the North York Moors for example, some significant totals by the
03:44end of the weekend here. Now by Monday much of this is going to sink south and
03:49clear through again slow processes but eventually Monday turns into a day of
03:54sunny spells and showers, drier conditions on the whole for Tuesday
03:58before another low turns up on Wednesday.
