30 April - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Hello. Some changes are on the horizon with our weather, but for Friday, the last day
00:05of April, it's more of the same. A similar day to Thursday, a chilly start, there'll
00:10be some sunshine, but there'll also be a fair few showers around. The showers on Thursday
00:15will steadily fade through the evening, still one or two heavy ones around, but for many
00:19it will become dry overnight with clear skies and light winds. And that is, again, going
00:24to allow those temperatures to tumble. Again, a hint of frost on the map, as you can see.
00:29Towns and cities certainly getting close to freezing and rural areas could drop a few
00:34degrees below. The showers coming in across northern Scotland will continue to fall as
00:38sleet and snow over the hills here. Hail showers are possible almost anywhere during Friday,
00:43but for quite a few of us, the day will start with a fair bit of sunshine, but then the
00:47cloud bubbles up and we'll see the showers breaking out right across the UK. Now, with
00:53light winds, the showers will be quite slow moving. It's not one of those days where the
00:57weather is going to be constantly changing, but slow moving heavy showers could make
01:02quite a wet afternoon. But equally, it means some places may miss out and not see many
01:07showers at all and stay largely dry and bright. Even with a bit of sunshine, though, temperatures
01:11are going to struggle still below average for the end of April. Just single figures
01:16on some of those North Sea coasts, that's going to feel pretty fresh, especially if
01:20you catch a hail shower. Elsewhere, with a bit of sunshine, double digits, maybe 13,
01:25possibly 14 at best. Those temperatures will fall away again on Friday. Heavy showers still
01:30around through the evening, but they do tend to fade quite quickly. So again, we're back
01:35to clear skies and tumbling temperatures as we head into the Bank holiday weekend. And
01:41then again on Saturday, it'll be a case of a sunny start for quite a few. But we'll watch
01:45the showers, just see them there breaking out really from late morning onwards. So the
01:50afternoon will be a case of dodging those showers. But again, quite slow moving showers
01:54with light winds, so not everywhere catching them. Large parts of the UK will be mostly
01:59dry on Saturday. But where we do see the showers breaking out, they could be quite heavy. Temperatures
02:05again below average and similar values to Friday. So single digits on some of those
02:09North Sea coasts with a bit of sunshine, we might scramble up to the teens. We're between
02:15weather systems through much of the weekend, which is why we're seeing those showers breaking
02:19out in the chilly old mornings. But look at this. As we head towards Monday, Bank holiday
02:24Monday, an area of low pressure set to swing in across the country. The isobars are really
02:29huddling up together, telling us it's going to be windy and quite wet on Monday as well.
02:35Details a bit uncertain about the exact track of this low pressure system, but we could
02:39see quite a spell of windy, unusually windy weather on Monday, as well as some persistent
02:44rain. Stay up to date for details on that. And before that, Saturday and Sunday, we'll
02:49continue to see a chilly feel with some sunshine, but also a scattering of showers. Best way
02:55to stay up to date with the Met Office, of course, is to follow us on social media.
