30 April - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Hello. Another chilly day out there, some places having a largely sunny day, others
00:06seeing quite a few heavy showers around. It's that mishmash that will continue into the
00:10weekend as well. Now, it is a mishmash, as you can see here on the satellite image, slow
00:15moving zones of showers, particularly across eastern parts of England earlier on, but also
00:21through Wales and some across the south, whereas some places like the Midlands, South East
00:25England, not seeing too many showers at all. Parts of Western Scotland, Northern Ireland
00:29also could stay largely dry. But where we do see the showers, particularly in southwest
00:34England, eastern parts of England, they are likely to be on the heavy side, maybe with
00:38hail and thunder mixed in as well. But where we see some sunshine, well, it doesn't feel
00:43too bad out there. Temperatures still below average for the end of April and quite chilly
00:48on many coasts, especially those North Sea coasts. But inlands, we could get 12, 13,
00:53maybe 14 Celsius quite quickly. Temperatures will fall away this evening and there'll still
00:57be quite a few showers around during the evening as well. But they do tend to fade
01:01away overnight. Perhaps we'll keep some going for parts of Lincolnshire and East Anglia.
01:06But otherwise, it becomes largely dry. And again, where we've got the clear skies, temperatures
01:11are going to fall away with light winds. There will be a frost across Scotland, northern
01:15England in rural areas and even further south in the countryside, not far off freezing,
01:20maybe a little bit below to start the weekend. The showers with the colder air across northern
01:24Scotland will continue to fall as hail and snow over the hills. And there will be showers
01:30breaking out again quite widely on Saturday after what should be a largely sunny start.
01:34But look at that. By the afternoon, no area immune except for some of the coasts. Most
01:40of these showers are going to be developing inland. So many of the coasts and beaches
01:43will be dry and sunny, but don't expect it to be too warm. Temperature wise, we're looking
01:49at again 10 to 13 Celsius, maybe 14 in one or two places. The winds are light. And again,
01:55the sun has got a bit of strength to it. But those temperatures below average for the start
01:59of May. And again, there'll still be quite a few showers around through Saturday evening.
02:04Again, one or two heavy ones around as well. They're quite slow moving these showers, too,
02:09because those winds are so light. The showers, though, will fade away again on Saturday night
02:14and Sunday, although it's broadly speaking a day of sunshine and showers, not as many
02:19showers as high pressure, a weak area of high pressure tries to move in. But that's quickly
02:23replaced as we go into Monday by a deepening area of low pressure. Look at the isobars
02:28on that. That's telling us the winds are going to be picking up through Bank Holiday Monday
02:32as well. So Sunday is sunny spells, still a few showers, although a better chance of
02:37staying completely dry on Sunday. The showers will be more scattered. Things will turn wet
02:42and windy on Monday, but still for many across the east in particular, it should be largely
02:47dry at least to start the day. For more details on Monday's forecast, stay up to date throughout
02:52the weekend. Best way to do that, follow the Met Office on social media.
