00:00Hello, welcome to your national weather update.
00:03It's a milder Monday, but it's also a fairly glum Monday
00:07with a lot of cloud across the UK.
00:09But temperatures have risen, certainly
00:10since the end of last week.
00:12Tucked in here is some warm air.
00:14This is what we call a warm sector.
00:16And these fronts have been slowly trickling southwards,
00:19ousting the cold air that was with us last week
00:22and into the weekend.
00:23So it is much milder, but these weather fronts
00:25are also bringing clouds and outbreaks of rain.
00:27A fairly damp start to Monday morning.
00:30The persistent rain, though, is ebbing away
00:32from England and Wales.
00:34Always going to keep heavy rain coming
00:35into western parts of Scotland, getting wetter again
00:38across Northern Ireland.
00:39Patchy rain, then, across England and Wales
00:41this afternoon, particularly in the west and over hills.
00:44Parts of eastern England, though, southeast Scotland,
00:46actually seeing some brightness at times and a bit of sunshine.
00:50Notice the winds coming down from the north,
00:52though, across the Northern Isles.
00:53It is distinctly colder here compared
00:56to the rest of the UK, single figures at best.
00:58But elsewhere, we're up in double digits again.
01:01And with a bit of brightness, we might
01:02squeak up to 15 degrees Celsius.
01:06Now, during this evening and overnight,
01:07we'll continue to feed outbreaks of rain
01:09into western Scotland, Northern Ireland.
01:11Patchy rain again over northern England, parts of Wales,
01:15again, much of southern England, eastern England
01:17will have a dry night.
01:18But as the cold air hits that wet weather,
01:20increasingly, we'll see some snow on the hills and mountains
01:24across northern Scotland.
01:25And it will be a cold night across the far northeast
01:28with frost where skies stay clear.
01:30But for the vast majority, it is a very mild night
01:33with temperatures in some urban areas
01:35sticking in double digits.
01:38We'll have that contrast again between mild south and cold
01:41in the north during Tuesday.
01:43And it's going to be a fairly wet day
01:45across much of Scotland.
01:46The snow for most of the day will be confined to the hills.
01:49But by the end of the day, starting
01:50to come down to lower levels.
01:52The rain on and off across southern Scotland
01:54may be the far north of England.
01:56And then things turn wet later across northern Ireland.
01:59For the bulk of England and Wales,
02:02it's a fine day on Tuesday, a bit breezy at times.
02:04We should see some decent spells of sunshine across the south
02:07and in the sunshine here.
02:09Feeling very pleasant with highs of 15, maybe 16 Celsius.
02:13Compare and contrast with that snow getting heavier
02:16across northern Scotland during Tuesday afternoon,
02:19increasingly coming down to lower levels.
02:22So much so, there are a bit concerns
02:23that could cause some disruption,
02:25because it's going to continue through Tuesday night
02:28and much of Wednesday across northern Scotland.
02:31So we do have a yellow warning in place.
02:33By the end of Wednesday, we could
02:35be seeing 10, maybe 15 centimetres of snow
02:38on some of the higher routes.
02:39And even to lower levels, several centimetres
02:41could build up to cause some disruption
02:43through the course of Wednesday.
02:46Zone of rain working its way southwards
02:48during Tuesday night and into Wednesday as well.
02:50And that will eventually turn things a little colder.
02:53This weather system moving in during Tuesday
02:56and that boundary between the warmer air still in place
02:58for most and the colder air across northern Scotland.
03:01But that's where we're going to see the snow during Wednesday.
03:04But as that system clears away, the cold air then floods south
03:07and will all turn chillier by the time
03:09we get to Thursday with a strong wind blowing
03:12and remaining in the cold air for most of us
03:13into Friday as well.
03:15But just be aware of that snow across northern Scotland.
03:18As I said, we have a yellow warning in place.
03:21For more details on that warning, download the app,
