4 October - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Welcome along to your national weather update.
00:03Something of a north-south split with the weather today,
00:05with parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland fairly soggy,
00:08most of England and Wales dry.
00:10But most areas are covered by this shield of clouds
00:14that forms out into a train out in the Atlantic,
00:17a train of moisture, which will continue
00:19to feed wet weather on these weather fronts,
00:21particularly across parts of Western Scotland.
00:23Meanwhile, in the south, actually,
00:25it's high pressure that's dominating,
00:26so the cloud not really thick enough here for much rain.
00:29And increasingly, we're likely to see some warmth
00:32across the south come the end of the week.
00:34Further north, though, we do have to deal with the rain.
00:36Been quite a wet start across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:39It is starting to ease off now across northern and eastern
00:42parts of Scotland.
00:43The east coast may even cheer up a little bit.
00:44But southwest Scotland and north of Northern Ireland
00:47staying pretty soggy through the rest of Wednesday.
00:49One or two scattered showers for England and Wales,
00:51mostly in the west, much of the east dry.
00:53And some brightness here, a little bit
00:55of sunshine coming through.
00:56Seeing the temperatures into the high teens
00:58might squeak up to 20 Celsius across the southeast.
01:01A cooler feel in Glasgow with the outbreaks of rain
01:04lingering here.
01:05The rain will trickle into parts of northern England
01:07for a time through the late afternoon
01:09into the early evening.
01:10So a little damp here, but that tends
01:12to peter out before further outbreaks of rain
01:14come into Northern Ireland, northwest England, north Wales
01:18during the early hours.
01:19For much of the south and east, again, it'll
01:21be quite dry, but fairly cloudy.
01:24Clearer skies in northern Scotland,
01:25certainly in the mainland, will allow temperatures
01:27to drop well down into single figures.
01:29There'll still be some showers over the northern isles.
01:31For the south, most places holding up in double digits,
01:3511 to 13, so quite a mild night here.
01:37Quite a cloudy start then to Thursday.
01:40Some rain and drizzle for parts of northwest England
01:42and north Wales, turning into a pretty wet morning
01:45for northern Ireland.
01:46And this zone of rain will then spread into western Scotland.
01:51Some heavy bursts there, some brighter colours mixed in.
01:54And that rain then spreads to northwest England, north Wales
01:56during the afternoon.
01:57Northern Ireland actually cheers up through the afternoon.
02:00And much of southern England, east Anglia,
02:01stays dry and fine throughout.
02:03Some hazy sunshine here.
02:06The breeze will be noticeable again,
02:08but with some brightness.
02:10Temperatures again in the southeast, 18, 19, maybe 20
02:13Celsius, obviously cooler further north.
02:14And feeling cool as the winds pick up.
02:16But actually, quite mild air coming into northern Ireland
02:19could see highs of 16 or 17 Celsius here.
02:22The wet and windy weather will continue
02:24to push its way across northern Scotland,
02:26clearing away from northern England.
02:28Maybe introducing some damp weather
02:30for a time over parts of the Midlands,
02:32over the hills and mountains of west Wales
02:34as we head through Thursday evening.
02:36That's from this weather front.
02:37It does dip a little further south
02:39into that area of high pressure, but not for long.
02:41The high will win out, pushing the weather fronts
02:44back further north.
02:45As this weather front continues to linger over western
02:48Scotland, the rain potentially building up
02:50through Friday and Saturday, that could cause a few issues.
02:53So we do have a Met Office yellow warning in place.
02:56But further south, it's all about the high pressure.
02:58As it drifts eastwards, we waft up warmer and warmer air.
03:03And temperatures will be significantly above average
03:06as we head into the weekend to the mid-20s
03:09across parts of the south.
03:11For more on that, you can check out our 10-day trend video.
03:14That'll be on YouTube by Wednesday afternoon.
03:17And of course, there's always more right across social media.
