00:00Hello again. After an exceptionally mild start to the year, it's much more January-like now.
00:07Colder weather has arrived. It feels really cold out there with the winds particularly
00:12strong across the northeast. Wintry showers in places as well, but quite a few of us seeing
00:16some sunny spells and for many it'll be a blue sky day tomorrow as well. Let's take
00:21a look at the bigger picture, though, because there's a lot going on. Weather fronts across
00:25the south bringing rain and some hill snow earlier and then lots of wintry showers packing
00:29in across northern Scotland. We have a warning in place here for the winds, particularly
00:34gusty across the northeast of the mainland and Orkney. 70, possibly 80 mile an hour gusts
00:39for a time through the early afternoon could cause some structural damage. The winds bringing
00:44in showers to Wales, Northern Ireland, some snow on the hills here. Rain at low levels
00:50perhaps across the northeast, but again some snow likely on the higher ground and with
00:54those strong winds that means blizzards. So some pretty nasty travelling conditions across
00:58the northeast and it feels cold wherever you are. Temperatures this afternoon, four,
01:02five degrees best, maybe six across the southwest. But add on that wind and it feels much closer
01:10to freezing and well below with those very strong winds across the far northeast. They'll
01:15only slowly ease overnight with further showers coming in here. Well, we continue with the
01:20potential for disruption, particularly to the transport network. Could be some ice further
01:25west as well as the showers come into Wales, northwest England, Northern Ireland and temperatures
01:30start to fall away. The winds will ease a little as we go through the night, but those
01:34winds actually strong enough to stop the temperatures falling too far. So most towns and cities
01:39actually hovering just about above freezing, but certainly rural areas there will be a
01:43fairly extensive frost and still some showers coming into the northeast. So again, potentially
01:48very icy conditions here in the morning and still some snow showers on the higher routes.
01:53A few showers early on across Wales, Northern Ireland, but they should tend to fade through
01:57the day and then actually most places having a fine day on Wednesday. The winds will be
02:03much lighter and there'll be some decent spells of sunshine. Temperatures will be below average,
02:09generally four, five, six Celsius, but it won't feel as cold because the winds won't
02:13be as strong and they should at least finally be a bit of sunshine to be had as well. As
02:19we go through Wednesday evening with those lighter winds, the temperatures are going
02:22to fall away pretty sharply. So an extensive frost forming very quickly on Wednesday evening.
02:29Wednesday night to Thursday is going to be one of the coldest or widespread cold ones
02:33of the winter so far. So a cold start to Thursday. Notice behind me there is some wet weather
02:39lurking. That's a weather system that will move in during Thursday and as it hits the
02:43colder air, it will bring some snow, chiefly over hills. And through the rest of this week,
02:49a continued likelihood of frosty mornings and icy conditions as well as a mixture of
02:54rain and hill snow to come too. So plenty going on. There are Met Office warnings in
02:58place. Make sure you check those out on the website through our app, or of course, make
03:03sure you stay up to date by following us right across social media.
