00:00Hello, welcome to your national weather update.
00:03The weather patterns are on the change.
00:05We're losing high pressure, replacing it
00:07with low pressure, which brings an increasing likelihood
00:09of wet weather through the long weekend.
00:12Now, we've got showers drifting northwards overnight.
00:15Tonight, nowhere completely immune,
00:17but I suspect much of eastern England, northern Scotland
00:19will stay dry.
00:20Still in the brisk easterly wind blowing here,
00:23bringing the mist and low cloud to those east-facing coasts.
00:26Further south, maybe a few breaks in the cloud,
00:28but generally a cloudy night with those outbreaks
00:31of rain drifting north, and a pretty mild night for most.
00:33But before the rain gets into northern areas,
00:36clearer skies here could allow temperatures
00:38to drop down to maybe 2 or 3 Celsius in a few spots.
00:41So a chilly start here, but generally
00:43elsewhere it's a mild but murky start, a lot of cloud,
00:46outbreaks of rain for northern Ireland,
00:48southern central Scotland, parts of northern England,
00:51all gradually heading northwards and easing off.
00:54Some breaks developing further south,
00:57so some brighter skies.
00:58We'll see a bit of sunshine, but that
00:59will allow showers to pop off from late morning onwards.
01:02And certainly, of course, a good chunk of England, Wales,
01:06southern Scotland, some heavy thundery showers
01:09are possible as the day goes on.
01:11Slow moving, intense downpours as well.
01:14So one of those days where one place gets a real soaking,
01:18whereas 10 miles away, it may stay completely dry.
01:21And between the showers, there will
01:22be brighter spells, some sunshine,
01:24and the showers may ease in the southwest later on.
01:27But north coast of Devon in particular,
01:29eastern side of England into southeast Scotland,
01:32that's the area where we're most likely to see
01:34these slow moving downpours, hail and thunder mixed in,
01:37a lot of spray and surface water on the road,
01:39so potential for some disruption.
01:41The far northwest likely to stay mostly dry and bright,
01:45and that's where we could see the top temperatures here,
01:4816, 17, maybe 18 degrees Celsius.
01:51Whereas with that breeze still blowing in from the North Sea,
01:53some of these North Sea coasts will, again,
01:55struggle to get much above 10 or 11.
01:58Further south, between the downpours,
02:00we should also get up into the high teens for a time.
02:03Still some of those heavy showers around, though,
02:05certainly through Friday evening.
02:07So again, heading away for the long weekend,
02:09a lot of spray and surface water on the M1, for example.
02:13But the showers do fade, and most places
02:15become dry as we head into Saturday.
02:18But look down to the southwest, cloud gathering,
02:21outbreaks of rain trickling in, and the breeze
02:23starting to pick up once more.
02:25That is the wet weather that's going to spread northwards
02:28during Saturday.
02:29It'll mean another mild night in the southwest.
02:32Again, further north, clearer skies
02:33will allow it to turn a little chilly,
02:35with temperatures down into single figures.
02:37As for Saturday, then, well, some question marks
02:41about the timing of this rain
02:43and when it's going to get into the London area
02:45with the coronation going on,
02:47but certainly may well be a dull, damp afternoon.
02:49Not just London, either, much of the Midlands,
02:51Wales turning dull and damp.
02:53It might brighten up a touch in the southwest.
02:56The rain may not get to Northern England
02:58until late on Northern Ireland,
02:59certainly much of Scotland likely to have
03:01a dry, bright day on Saturday,
03:03maybe a few showers in the northwest.
03:05And notice still the wind coming in from the North Sea,
03:08bringing in that chilly feel to the Aberdeenshire coast
03:11and across the Northern Isles,
03:12where it's likely to stay fairly glum and chilly,
03:1410 or 11 at best.
03:16Elsewhere, again, mid or even high teens
03:19where it brightens up.
03:20But a cooler feel with that rain
03:23coming into the Midlands and North Wales
03:25compared to Friday.
03:27Now, weather system is going to edge away,
03:30but there's some question marks
03:31about how quickly it clears for Sunday.
03:32It could still be bringing some heavy showers
03:34across the east on Sunday,
03:36but a little ridge in the isobars
03:38promises many western areas a drier day on Sunday,
03:41but it doesn't last.
03:42Another set of weather fronts bringing outbreaks of rain
03:44in from the west during Bank Holiday Monday,
