03 May - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Hello. Friday saw huge contrast across the country,
00:04feeling like summer in western Scotland,
00:06feeling like February across parts of the Midlands
00:09and northern England.
00:10Stuck under the thick cloud and the outbreaks of rain,
00:12the mixed weather will continue through the long weekend
00:15as well.
00:16And the outbreaks of rain and drizzle
00:17will continue this evening over the Midlands, Wales,
00:20extending a little further north into parts
00:22of southern Scotland and Northern Ireland, too.
00:25The far northwest staying dry and clear,
00:27and then the south, clear skies developing here.
00:29That's going to turn things pretty chilly, actually.
00:32We start the weekend well down into single figures.
00:34May not be far off freezing through some rural spots
00:38in the south, so gardeners take note of that.
00:40We're well above freezing, though,
00:42where we've got that cloud keeping the temperatures up
00:44over many central areas.
00:45That cloud will also make for a pretty drab start, of course,
00:48to the long weekend.
00:49Rain and drizzle on and off through the morning
00:51for Northern Ireland, northern England,
00:53parts of southern Scotland, northwest Wales as well.
00:56Whereas in the south, many places
00:59having a good looking day on Saturday, dry and bright,
01:01some good spots of sunshine, certainly much brighter
01:03day over the Midlands and East Anglia compared to Friday.
01:07A few scattered showers possible in the far southeast
01:10later on.
01:11A few showers developing over the highlands as well.
01:13But again, much of the far northwest of Scotland,
01:16dry and fine.
01:18That's not quite as warm as Friday,
01:19but still temperatures here getting up into the mid
01:22or even high teens.
01:23And further south, feel warmer as well over the Midlands,
01:26East Anglia, the southeast, 18, maybe 19 Celsius.
01:29But again, where that cloudier zone persists,
01:32temperatures struggling to get much above 13 or 14 Celsius.
01:35And there's also going to be quite a bit of low cloud
01:37on some of these eastern coasts, particularly
01:39the east coast of Scotland, up around the northern isles.
01:42Could be quite murky here through Saturday.
01:43That could be a feature of the weather
01:45throughout Sunday as well.
01:47During Saturday evening, I suspect
01:49we'll see a few more outbreaks of rain and drizzle
01:51over southwest Scotland.
01:52A few more showers over northern Scotland.
01:55But many places will be dry as we head into Sunday.
01:58Notice down to the southwest, however,
02:00potentially a bit more clouds spilling in.
02:02I say potentially because you need
02:04to watch this area of low pressure
02:05just creeping towards us.
02:07But still a bit of uncertainty about the timing.
02:10And that's giving us the headaches for Sunday
02:12and Monday's details.
02:14There will be showers, but many places
02:16will be fine with sunny spells again,
02:19particularly over parts of northern England,
02:21looking much brighter than Saturday.
02:22North Wales as well.
02:24One or two showers dotted across eastern England.
02:26Greater chance of some showers across the southwest.
02:29But even here, I suspect much of the day will be dry.
02:31Could see some heavy, even thundery,
02:33showers breaking out over the mountains
02:35across central and eastern Scotland.
02:38Again, some mist and low cloud around the coasts
02:40in the northeast.
02:41But as I said, many places actually generally dry
02:44through much of Sunday.
02:45And where you get the sun, it's pretty powerful
02:47at this time of year.
02:48So it will bump those temperatures up much warmer
02:51than it has felt for most of May.
02:5218, maybe 19 Celsius.
02:54Some of those coasts in the northeast,
02:56though, will be struggling a little bit.
02:58And temperatures a little lower if we
03:00see more clouds spilling into the southwest.
03:03Potential for a bit more of that cloud as we head into Monday,
03:06particularly along the southernmost counties
03:09of England.
03:10Still a bit of uncertainty about the detail for this,
03:12but it could be quite gray here with some rain at times.
03:14Elsewhere, again, showers breaking out
03:17through the day over parts of Scotland, maybe northern
03:19England.
03:19I suspect there'll be many areas in this central zone
03:22where Monday's set fair, dry and fine, with some sunshine.
03:26Again, that sun making all the difference
03:28to those temperatures jumping up.
03:29Could reach 19, 20 Celsius on the Monday.
03:32Cooler, obviously, if we do have this more persistent cloud
03:35and outbreaks of rain across the south.
03:37Do keep up to date with the forecast,
03:39particularly if you've got plans for Bank Holiday Monday.
