04 March - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Not completely dry this week, but generally a lot drier than it has been, and certainly for most it's a fine afternoon out there.
00:07The main exception to that is the southwest, where we've got this little area of low pressure.
00:12The isobar is also squeezing together, telling us it's also going to get windy.
00:16And these weather fronts providing the outbreaks of rain already across Devon and Cornwall, spreading into parts of South Wales.
00:22Quite a lot of spray and surface water on the roads here, parts of the M5 and the M4.
00:27But although it'll cloud over the Midlands and somewhat across the southeast, for many away from the southwest it's a dry and a fine day.
00:35Some decent spouts of sunshine, particularly in western Scotland.
00:38The breeze is picking up, especially in that southwestern corner, and with the rain here it doesn't feel all that pleasant.
00:44Temperatures struggling a little bit, 8, 9 degrees at best.
00:48Elsewhere we should get into double figures, maybe a 12 in the capital.
00:52Now, as we go through this evening, the rain will trickle northwards into Northern Ireland, parts of northwest England, southeast England and across the Midlands.
01:01And eventually, by the end of the night, we'll see some of that rain cropping up in parts of central and southern Scotland.
01:06But it's not going to be as heavy here, and it will tend to move through.
01:09As it moves through, it leaves a legacy of moisture, and that will provide some mist and fog over parts of Wales,
01:15and particularly later in the night over the Midlands and eastern England, some poor visibility here.
01:21As it clears, it also allows temperatures to drop.
01:23And just a hint of blue on the chart there, some pockets of frost likely over parts of Wales and southwest England in the countryside.
01:30Most towns and cities starting off the morning in low to mid single figures.
01:35On to the details for Tuesday then, and we start off with outbreaks of rain and drizzle over northeast England, southeast Scotland.
01:41We'll also start with some mist and fog, don't forget, over the Midlands and eastern England.
01:45And also the possibility of some showers across the far south of England,
01:49particularly from Hampshire across east and west Sussex and towards Kent.
01:53Hit and miss, but some heavy showers possible here.
01:56And also then through the day, we'll see some heavy showery rain working into western parts of Scotland.
02:02So it is a bit of a mishmash, but I think for a good chunk of the country, the Midlands, once the fog's cleared,
02:07most of Wales, northern Ireland, southwest England and eastern England come the afternoon.
02:12There'll be plenty of sunshine around.
02:14The wind's generally a bit lighter as well, and feeling a little bit warmer as a result.
02:18Yes, it starts a bit chilly, but temperatures will widely up into double figures
02:23and a few more places getting up to 11 or 12 Celsius.
02:27During Tuesday evening, we should start to see the showery rain easing off further across the western side of Scotland.
02:34Some clearest bars developing here, clearest guys elsewhere.
02:36So that will allow it to turn quite cold on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.
02:41But generally through this week, we're going to see this area of high pressure start to control things.
02:47Just edging closer to the UK, keeping the weather fronts at bay.
02:51It won't be completely dry. There will still be some showers around through the week.
02:55And this high pressure will also start to generate more of a breeze coming in from the east,
02:59which will bring a bit of a cooler feel, certainly on some eastern coasts and the possibility of some low cloud as well.
03:06But generally looking a bit drier through this week compared to many a recent week.
