5 March - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.

00:00Hello. A fine Tuesday for many, but where we do have the showers, they are likely to
00:06be on the heavy side this afternoon. The satellite picture and the radar show a bit of a mess
00:11first thing this morning. A line of rain. That's an old weather front clinging to eastern
00:15coasts. A bit of showery rain moving across Northern Ireland, heading for Western Scotland
00:19and some heavy showers over parts of southern England. And it's here through parts of Hampshire,
00:24eastern West Sussex and Kent in particular, where we could see some slow-moving heavy
00:28downpours during this afternoon. The rain in the east, that's kind of breaking up and
00:34fizzling out, but staying pretty glum here nevertheless. The showery rain over Northern
00:37Ireland pushing into Western Scotland. So, Northern Ireland brightening up, Wales, South
00:42West England, North West England, South East Scotland also seeing some decent spells of
00:46sunshine through the afternoon and reasonably cheery too across the Midlands. The winds
00:50are fairly light, quite brisk winds across Western Scotland and across the far North
00:55East. But otherwise, the winds lighter than yesterday. And so, in the sunshine, it feels
00:59a bit warmer as well. 10, 11 degrees Celsius. But obviously, where it stays pretty grey,
01:04temperatures struggling in the east, only seven or eight degrees Celsius. That's pretty
01:09chilly for March. As we head through this evening, not a great deal of change. I think
01:14some heavy showers still lingering in Kent into the evening, but they should tend to
01:17fade. We may start to see this band of thicker cloud and patchy rain just trickle back into
01:22eastern parts of Scotland, North East England come dawn. Further west, it stays dry and
01:27clear and it's here where the temperatures drop furthest. So, hint of blue on the chart
01:31there. We will see some frost over parts of Wales and South West England. Towns and cities
01:37may just escape and stay above further east with more clouds. Temperatures will hold up.
01:43Now, as well as the frost in parts of South Wales, South West England, there could be
01:46one or two thick freezing fog patches. So, just be aware of that first thing on Wednesday
01:51morning. It could take a few hours to clear. Cloud increasing into the far southwest.
01:56We'll see a few showers into Cornwall and the cloud thicken up again for a rather grey
02:00feeling day across eastern Scotland, North East England with some outbreaks of light
02:06rain and drizzle. And then we'll see a few more showers breaking out of the east Midlands
02:09and South East England during the afternoon. There'll be hit and miss and we will see some
02:13brightness. But again, it'll be in the west away from Cornwall. We see the best of the
02:16bright weather. West coast of Scotland looks pretty good. Most of Wales and much of South
02:20West England once that morning freezing fog has gone. And once the temperatures have started
02:25to rise with the help of a bit of spring sunshine, we'll get up to 11, 12, maybe 13 Celsius.
02:30Again, cooler on some of those eastern coasts, especially where it stays fairly glum and
02:35overcast. Not a great deal of change through Wednesday evening. A sprinkling of showers
02:39in the east. Many places dry. Weather fronts out to the west trying to push in, but not
02:44really succeeding. And I think for many, yeah, we'll stay fine through Thursday and Friday
02:49as well. Just wanted to scattered heavy showers around. For more details on that, you can
