04 August - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin

00:00Welcome along to your national weather update. Sunny spells for most today but
00:04there will be a few showers around. However, they'll mostly be across the
00:08north, not many further south. We're between weather systems, low pressure up
00:12to the north, high pressure that will move in over the next few days out to
00:16the west. And between the two, the winds coming down from the northwest. So it's
00:20in the areas exposed to that northwesterly breeze that are seeing
00:23most of the showers. Parts of Western Scotland, Northern Ireland, but also a
00:27fair few across northeastern parts of Scotland. The odd one for northwest
00:31England, maybe North Wales, but most of England and Wales dry. Some cloud around
00:35but most places seeing a bit of blue sky and some sunny spells. It is fresher out
00:40there though, nothing like as humid as recent days. We could still get up to a
00:44pretty warm 24, 25 degrees across the southeast. But generally temperatures
00:48below average across northern Britain with many places into the high teens at
00:53best. I'm feeling cooler with that breeze and certainly when the showers come
00:55along. Still a few of those showers across the northern half of Scotland in
00:59particular this evening and we'll see a few more through the night drifting back
01:02towards Northern Ireland, southwest Scotland and maybe some coming into
01:06northwest England and North Wales once more. But again further south and east
01:10most places dry and clear. We've got that cooler, fresher air with us. So a much
01:16more comfortable night certainly compared to earlier this week. We might
01:19just stay in the teens in some big urban areas but many places will be much lower
01:24than that and some rural spots well down into single figures. So a fresh start to
01:29Friday but a sunny start again across much of the Midlands, South Wales,
01:33southern and eastern England. Eastern Scotland too also generally dry and with
01:38some sunny spells. Cloud will develop and we'll see those showers perhaps becoming
01:42a little more widespread through the day. So some getting to the east of the
01:47Pennines, a few getting into eastern parts of Scotland. But they'll be fairly
01:50well scattered. Showers in the morning for Northern Ireland, western Scotland
01:54tending to ease off during the afternoon. We could see one or two heavy
01:58ones certainly from the Midlands southwards. Again it is likely to be a
02:02dry day with good spells of sunshine and temperatures again around or a touch
02:07above average maybe getting into the mid-twenties once more. But for much of
02:11northern Britain again quite cool really. Temperatures only 16, 17 degrees and
02:15those temperatures will take a dip when we catch a shower or two. Those showers I
02:20suspect will fade pretty rapidly during Friday evening. Still some around through
02:25the rush hour but tending to drift away. So many places having a fine Friday
02:29evening with clear spells. It will again turn pretty fresh as we head into the
02:33weekend. Notice behind me this line of rain. That is a weather front that will
02:38introduce cloud and a bit of rain across western Scotland, Northern Ireland
02:42overnight into Saturday. But that area of high pressure that we saw earlier that is
02:47really moving in. It's going to stick around for a number of days certainly
02:51through the weekend into the early part of next week bringing a lot of dry
02:54weather and a lot of sunny weather too. It'll also slowly see the temperatures
03:00ticking up. So we're getting the fresher air in during Friday but if we run
03:05through that sequence again as the high pressure builds in temperatures will
03:08start to rise. So we'll see those temperatures gradually picking up through
03:12the weekend and those temperatures may well rise further as we go into next
03:17week. For more on that make sure you stay up to date with the latest from the
03:20Met Office by following us across social media.
