00:00Hello again. It's been a dry but rather cold and cloudy day for many of us and that theme
00:05is going to continue as we go through into Friday because the blocking air of high pressure
00:10we've had through much of the week will linger. However, into the weekend it drifts away allowing
00:15for a weak frontal system to push its way southwards. A second front is then likely
00:20to push its way southwards as we go through Sunday. Neither front are likely to bring
00:24a huge amount of rain but what we will see behind them, cold Arctic air plunging down
00:29and so temperatures likely to drop further as we go into next week and with that the
00:33risk of a little bit of snow. I will come on to that later. However, back to Thursday
00:38evening and it's a cloudy story for many places particularly across England and Wales. Some
00:43cloud across Northern Ireland to start but clearer skies developing here. Also some clear
00:48skies across much of Scotland away from the east and it's under the clear skies unsurprisingly.
00:53That's where we're going to see the lowest temperatures here across parts of Scotland
00:56and Northern Ireland. Temperatures falling several degrees below freezing. A fairly widespread
01:00harsh frost. There could be some icy patches, some patches of freezing fog to watch out
01:04for as well. Meanwhile, across the rest of the UK for England and Wales with more cloud
01:09than we've seen through some recent nights it's not going to be as chilly so any frost
01:13is going to be that bit more isolated. Through Friday itself a largely cloudy picture for
01:19much of England and Wales. Perhaps some brightness across the far west of Wales and perhaps parts
01:24of Cornwall too to start off with and we may see some brighter breaks developing as
01:28we go into the afternoon. But the best of the sunshine likely to be across central southern
01:33parts of Scotland, perhaps Northern Ireland too, with increasing amounts of cloud and
01:37some outbreaks of rain pushing their way in across far northwestern parts of Scotland
01:41ahead of that first front I mentioned earlier. It is going to be a chilly day especially
01:45towards the south. Temperatures here a little bit below average for the time of year and
01:49even further north temperatures on the low side. So most places seeing highs in the mid
01:54single figures. As we go through later on Friday that front then is going to make its
01:59way southwards. So initially bring some moderate rain across northern parts of Scotland but
02:03as it progresses southwards it really breaks up a little bit. So not bringing a huge amount
02:08of rain by the time it reaches far northern parts of England, perhaps Northern Ireland
02:12by the time some of us start to wake up on Saturday morning. Ahead of this staying largely
02:17dry some clear breaks but often quite cloudy. Clearer skies following in behind and also
02:22a scattering of showers too. Again it is going to be a chilly night. There will be
02:27some frost around. Temperatures in prone spots likely to drop a little bit below freezing.
02:32So some frost and perhaps again some patches of fog or freezing fog. As we go through Saturday
02:37itself then that front continues to make its way southwards. It is going to really be quite
02:42a weak feature. So yes it will bring a zone of cloud perhaps and a few outbreaks of drizzly
02:46rain but nothing particularly heavy and in fact in the far south it's likely to stay
02:50mostly dry here. There will be some brighter breaks around, perhaps the best of the sunshine
02:55to the north of that front across parts of Scotland. But for northern parts of Scotland
02:59showers then pushing their way in on that northerly wind, that cold northerly wind.
03:05And so some of these showers could be a little bit wintry, some sleet or snow over the highest
03:09ground. Temperatures in the north though are actually likely to be a little bit higher
03:12than they have been recently. Highs around seven possibly eight Celsius. Meanwhile further
03:17south here we're likely to see temperatures a little bit below average. The strongest
03:22winds though will be across northern parts so that will add to that chilly feel. As we
03:27go through into Sunday and it's likely that we're going to then see a second front pushing
03:31its way southwards bringing some cloud outbreaks of rain. By the time we get to the afternoon
03:35that could be lying across more central parts of England and Wales. But again nothing really
03:40heavy in association with that front. Cold arctic air though following in behind and
03:44on that arctic air plenty of showers and these will readily be falling as snow particularly
03:49across Scotland. But we could see some showers feeding down the eastern side of the UK as
03:54well. Those showers could be a little bit heavy at times so we could see some snow accumulations
03:59building up particularly across parts of Scotland. And notice temperatures again on the low side.
04:04We're likely to keep further cold weather as we go into next week. Could bring some
04:08more disruptive weather so it is worth staying up to date wherever you are. I'll see you
04:12later. Bye bye.
