00:00Good evening, welcome to your latest update. Many of us have seen a sunny end to the day
00:05and those clearer skies will persist through much of the night. They'll even spread into
00:09its southeastern areas of England where it's been a rather dull day. So plenty of dry and
00:14clear weather overnight to come and as a result, temperatures will drop off quite quickly so
00:18it will be a chillier night tonight. In the south and east where we've had that drizzly
00:22rain through the day, we could see some mist and fog developing as well as a touch of frost
00:27but rurally temperatures dipping down as low as minus two. But in towns and cities, one
00:32or two degrees, that's enough to cause some frost on the car by the morning. However,
00:37in the north and west, though, it's going to be a mild night and that's because we've
00:40got particularly strong winds across here through tonight and through much of the weekend
00:45as well. You can see how tightly packed the ice bars are and that means that shows you
00:49the strength of the wind. We've also got these frontal systems skirting along to the north.
00:54These will wiggle and wave over the weekend, marking the boundary between the cold air
00:58to the north and the exceptionally mild air building in from the south. And as that mild
01:03air arrives into Friday morning, we'll see some cloud thicken from the west across parts
01:07of Northern Ireland and Western Scotland and some drizzly rain arrive as well. It'll be
01:12fairly light and patchy through the morning, but will turn more persistent into the afternoon.
01:17There'll also be some rain across parts of Wales and the Pennines into the afternoon
01:21as well. Across the south and east, though, it'll be a much brighter day than recent days
01:26with plenty of sunshine into the afternoon. But temperatures will struggle after the chilliest
01:30start, eights or nines, but much milder further west with 11 or 12 degrees for many areas.
01:37That milder feel will continue to build into Friday night and to Saturday morning as we
01:41see that milder really start to build up from the south and west. It'll stay dry for many
01:46central and southern areas of the UK overnight on Friday night and into Saturday morning.
01:51There'll be some clearer spells across the south and east, but much of the rain will
01:55be restricted to parts of Northern Ireland and mainly northern areas of Scotland. And
01:59the winds will really start to strengthen overnight. But temperatures won't dip down
02:04much at all. In fact, the nighttime temperatures are expected to be higher than the daytime
02:10averages for this time of year. For many areas, we could see temperatures not dipping down
02:13below 11 degrees across the far north of Scotland. So very mild start to the weekend and it will
02:20continue on that theme. We'll see a lot of clouds still coming in from the west. I think
02:24Saturday will be the drier day of the weekend for southern and central areas, but there's
02:29still a lot of rain to come across the far north of Scotland and rainfall totals will
02:33slowly build up here. It'll be a mild day with highs of 11 or 12 degrees for many areas
02:39and milder day in the south and east than Friday. But as I said, a wet day across the
02:44north west of Scotland and it will continue to rain through Saturday night and into Sunday
02:49morning. Then as a result, there is a weather warning in force for these areas. If you want
