00:00Hello again, I do hope you were able to make the most of the fine weather many of us had
00:04today because the rest of the week is looking pretty wet.
00:07At the moment we have an area of low pressure to the northwest of the UK that's leading
00:11to some brisk winds and those winds are coming from the northwest which is why there is a
00:16chilly feel to things with that polar air across the UK.
00:19But our attention is turning to an area of low pressure just to the southwest of us that
00:23is going to head towards the UK as we go through Tuesday bringing some wet weather to many
00:28parts.
00:29With that to the here and now though and as we go through the end of Monday we do have
00:33some showery outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow over parts of Scotland above 200 to 300
00:38metres or so.
00:39That's where we're likely to see any snow, could see a couple of centimetres accumulating
00:43in places.
00:44Further showery outbreaks continuing through the night though the snow risk is somewhat
00:47decreasing as we go through the early hours.
00:49Elsewhere, yes there will be some outbreaks of rain overnight but for many places it will
00:54stay often quite dry and there will be some clear skies around too under which temperatures
00:58are going to take a bit of a dip.
01:00Across the south, many places falling to mid single figures, perhaps a little bit chillier
01:04than this, away from the towns and cities.
01:06Further north, low single figures quite likely, in fact in the north east of Scotland it could
01:11drop a little bit below freezing, not quite as cold as last night when it did fall several
01:16degrees below freezing but nonetheless a touch of frost is quite likely towards the north
01:20east of Scotland and also watch out for some icy patches first thing Tuesday morning as
01:24well.
01:25Otherwise, as we go through Tuesday, showers again for parts of Scotland, particularly
01:29towards the west, some feeding further eastwards, maybe a bit of hill snow over the highest
01:34points but many places just seeing a few outbreaks of rain.
01:37The more persistent, heavier rain though is likely to push up from the south west as we
01:40go through the day, particularly across parts of Wales, south west England, that's where
01:44we are likely to see some heavy bursts of rain.
01:47We could see 20 to 30 millimetres, perhaps possibly even a little bit more building up.
01:51That shouldn't cause any major issues but nonetheless it is going to be a fairly wet
01:56day and that rain will spread across much of England, Wales and into Northern Ireland
02:00as we go through the day too, with plenty of cloud mixed in with it as well.
02:04The greatest chance of seeing some sunshine then will be across more central northern
02:08parts of Scotland but like I say, you do need to watch out for a few showers.
02:12A bit of a north south split in terms of our temperatures on Tuesday, milder air starting
02:16to push its way in from the south west so we're likely to see highs of around 13 or
02:2014 Celsius here but further north, temperatures still on the chilly side, around 6 or 7 at
02:27best.
02:28Later on on Tuesday, we stick with the cloudy, rather wet theme across much of the UK, however
02:33across the northern two thirds of Scotland, largely clear skies and under these clear
02:38skies it is going to turn pretty cold, temperatures probably a little colder than this coming
02:43night so we could see some rural spots falling as low as minus 5, minus 6 so a fairly widespread
02:49harsh frost across many parts of Scotland, less so for southern Scotland where the cloud
02:54and some outbreaks of rain is likely to have pushed its way in and that's the theme across
02:58the rest of the UK, a fairly mild start to the day on Wednesday morning because of the
03:03cloudy wet picture.
03:05As we go through Wednesday itself then, sticking with that relatively unsettled theme, outbreaks
03:09of showery rain at times, perhaps something a little bit more persistent pushing into
03:13the south and developing across parts of Northern Ireland, Northern England and feeding into
03:17southern Scotland too, could be some heavier breaks mixed in with this.
03:22But in between those two zones of rain, something a little bit drier perhaps across more central
03:27parts of the UK and we may see some brightness but again the greatest chance of seeing some
03:31bright or sunny skies will be across northern parts of Scotland but this is where it's still
03:35going to be quite chilly, again temperatures only rising to highs of around 6 or 7 Celsius
03:40whereas elsewhere more widely we're going to see temperatures well into double figures.
03:45As we go later on in the week and I think as we go through the end of Wednesday into
03:49Thursday we can expect some pretty unsettled weather to arrive, could be some heavy persistent
03:54rain for a time which could lead to some issues before then a weak ridge of high pressure
03:58builds for Friday.
03:59So at the moment Friday does look like it's going to be largely dry but that dry settled
04:04weather may not last particularly long with further fronts waiting out in the west.
04:08We do have a more in-depth look at the week ahead forecast available on our YouTube channel
04:12otherwise I'll see you again soon.
04:13Bye bye.
