00:00Hello, very good evening to you. Once the rain in the southeast clears away, we will
00:04have clear skies for a time, allowing for some frost, but then we have some wet and
00:08wintry weather pushing its way into the southwest as we go into tomorrow. That's all in association
00:13with an area of low pressure that's going to linger across the country as we go through
00:18Friday and into Saturday, bringing a fairly messy, unsettled picture as we go into the
00:23weekend, but signs of something a bit drier, a bit calmer as we go into Sunday, at least
00:28for most of us. I'll have more on that in a second. Back to the here and now, and like
00:32I said, we have some rain in the southeast, but that's clearing away as we go through
00:35this evening, with then clearer skies developing for many, albeit with a few showers in some
00:40places. Notice then this swathe of wet weather feeding into parts of the southwest and also
00:45parts of Wales as we go through the early hours of Friday morning. That is also likely
00:50to bring some heavy downpours and also some snow over any modest higher ground could cause
00:55some problems, particularly on the roads, if you're heading out during the morning on
00:59Friday. Otherwise, we need to watch out for temperatures dropping under the clearer skies
01:03and so we could see a fairly harsh frost across parts of Scotland and even elsewhere. Prone
01:08rural spots could dip close to, if not below, freezing, so some icy patches are possible
01:12as well as some patches of fog and freezing fog. As we go through the day on Friday, the
01:17very wet weather across parts of the southwest will feed its way a little bit further eastwards
01:21and northwards too, lying across northern parts of England as we head into the afternoon.
01:26All the time, bringing some wintriness over higher ground above 200-250 metres or so.
01:32That's where we're most likely to see anything wintry. Behind the band of rain across much
01:37of England and Wales as we head into the afternoon, there will be a scattering of showers. Some
01:41of these could be pretty heavy, but there will also be some sunny breaks in between.
01:46The greatest chance of seeing some sunshine on Friday though will be across parts of Scotland
01:50and perhaps Northern Ireland too, though a few showers likely across the far northwest
01:53of Scotland. It will be a chilly feeling day. There are some strong winds around and temperatures
01:59lower than average for the time of year. Worth noting that Friday is the start of March,
02:03the start of meteorological spring. Later on as we go through Friday evening, it is
02:08going to stay pretty changeable, more unsettled weather to come, further outbreaks of showery
02:12rain and all the time with that chilly air that we have across us, the showery outbreaks
02:17of rain could bring some more sleet or snow over higher ground. As we go through the night
02:21though, perhaps the greatest chance of some clearer skies will be across some western
02:25areas and so it's here where we're likely to see temperatures dropping lowest, the greatest
02:29chance of some frost here. A bit of a reversal of fortunes compared to this coming night
02:34where it's in eastern areas where we're most likely to see the frost. But as we go through
02:38Saturday, staying with that messy theme, that low pressure sticking around, so more outbreaks
02:44of showery rain and again some sleet or snow still quite likely over any modest higher
02:49ground. But there will be some drier weather around so it definitely won't be a total wash
02:53out and whilst it will still be quite windy around coastal parts, inland it will start
02:58to be a little calmer compared to Friday. Temperatures still a little bit on the low
03:02side particularly for the start of March, most places seeing highs ranging from around
03:07five to nine perhaps Celsius. As we look ahead towards Sunday and it will be a drier, calmer
03:13day for many of us. There will be some fog, some murkiness around first thing, perhaps
03:17even a bit of frost in some places. But yes, plenty of dry weather for many, a few spots
03:22of rain here and there and then the potential for some more persistent, perhaps even heavy
03:26rain to affect some eastern parts. But a bit of uncertainty about this, we may not see
03:30much if any of this rain reaching the UK. Nonetheless, temperatures are still going
03:34to be a little bit on the low side so temperatures similar to what we can expect on Saturday.
03:39We will of course keep you up to date with the forecast as we go through the weekend.
