00:00Hello, it is going to be a very wet day for many of us. Widespread heavy persistent rain
00:05spreading across much of the country in association with a relatively deep area of low pressure
00:10that has actually pushed in from Europe and is gradually going to make its way north westwards
00:15as we go through the next few days. This is then bringing widespread heavy rain across
00:20the bulk of the country already spreading across much of England and Wales and will
00:24push into Scotland as well. Perhaps something a little bit drier across parts of Northern
00:28Ireland and some southern parts of England and Wales too, but here there will be some
00:33thunderstorms developing and we do have a number of warnings in force. Now here are
00:37your temperatures for today, your highs, and I'm not going to dwell on them too long because
00:41I want to get on to the warnings, but they're around or a little bit above average for some
00:45places, highs of 19 possibly 20, but under the wet weather it's going to feel markedly
00:50fresher, pretty unpleasant for some of us. But like I said, a number of warnings out
00:55at the moment. We have a yellow rain warning across a good chunk of Scotland away from
00:59the far west, but even here some thundery showers are quite possible. Another yellow
01:03warning affecting much of England and Wales, just far southern parts avoiding this, but
01:08here across the far south of England we do have the risk of some heavy thunderstorms
01:13which could cause some problems. Watch out for some large hail and frequent lightning
01:17here, but the greatest cause for concern as we go through today will be across parts of
01:21North Wales and North West England. Here we have an amber rain warning in force because
01:26over the high ground of North West England we could see 70-90mm of rain and over the
01:32mountains of North Wales there's the potential for 100-150mm possibly even a little bit more.
01:39This brings the risk of some flooding, there could be some fast moving flood water, communities
01:44could get cut off, there could be power outages, very difficult driving conditions and other
01:48delay to transport as well. As we go through the rest of the day we are going to see the
01:53worst of the rain gradually shifting away towards the north west, but it really takes
01:57a long time to do so which is why we're going to see those rainfall totals really building
02:02up particularly across the northern half of the UK where the persistent rain is likely
02:06to continue as we go through into Thursday morning. Even some rain starting to push its
02:11way into parts of Northern Ireland too. A drier story towards the south, staying pretty
02:16cloudy, perhaps some clear spells towards the far south of the UK. Temperatures unsurprisingly
02:21aren't going to drop a huge amount because of all the unsettled weather and whilst the
02:25winds will be generally light towards the south they are going to be quite blustery
02:28particularly towards north western parts of the UK. So Thursday doesn't look quite as
02:33wet as today but nonetheless it is pretty wet particularly across the northern half
02:38of the UK. Further outbreaks of rain continuing, not as heavy as today but because of the heavy
02:43rain that we're going to see there could still be some further issues which is why the yellow
02:47warning across Scotland continues through much of tomorrow. Otherwise towards the south
02:51maybe some bright sunny skies developing towards some south eastern parts and here generally
02:56light winds but still some blustery winds towards the north west and with the stronger
03:01winds here and some further wet weather it's going to feel pretty fresh, pretty cool for
03:05the time of year but a bit warmer towards the south south east, again highs of around
03:0919 possibly 20 Celsius. As we go further ahead and into the weekend and well Friday
03:16looks like we'll see that rain continuing to shift its way northwards and so a drier
03:20picture further south. More widely a drier picture for many of us on Saturday, some showers
03:25perhaps before we see some more rain arrive again for Sunday. The bank holiday Monday
03:30well that's kind of looking a bit uncertain at the moment, there is the potential for
03:33some wet weather to come. The warnings that we do have out at the moment are likely to
03:38be updated so do stay on top of them on our website and our app and do head to our website
03:43as well to get some advice on how you can stay weather ready. I'll see you again soon,
03:47bye bye.
