00:00Hello there. Welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:04More rain arrives across western areas through the early hours of Wednesday morning.
00:08Before that though, we do have a ridge just arriving across the country
00:12as this rain clears the far south-east through the evening time.
00:15This ridge will bring with it the chance of fog across more central and southern areas of England and Wales
00:20before cloud moves in with outbreaks of rain and the air turns milder across most parts of the country.
00:25Behind it then, a more active feature here.
00:28This weather system will bring colder air behind with some wintry showers
00:32and some heavier pulses of rain associated with it as well.
00:36That's Thursday. Let's head back now to Tuesday evening
00:40where we are seeing some patchy rain and drizzle across England and Wales.
00:44It's clearing towards the low countries and then we'll see clearer skies.
00:47At the same time, showers across Scotland will fade away,
00:51hanging on to some showery bursts across the far north and north-west of Scotland
00:55as more cloud arrives after midnight for Northern Ireland, Western Scotland,
00:59more cloud also for Wales and the West Country.
01:01You can see where this fog is, anywhere from mid-Wales, midlands towards Fenlands, southwards.
01:06And where we see some clearer skies, we can't rule out some localised pockets of frost.
01:11So a bit of a chilly start to the day across central and eastern areas of England
01:15and even eastern Scotland seeing some fairly low temperatures.
01:19But on Wednesday morning, a wet morning across Northern Ireland.
01:22Western Scotland seeing that rain, the Isle of Man,
01:25pushing in across the north-west of England, Wales as well as the West Country.
01:28It extends towards the eastern side of Scotland and most of Northern England
01:33and down towards the midlands as we head through the afternoon.
01:36A slight clearance coming in across Northern Ireland, still a lot of cloud
01:39and some showers filtering in with a stronger wind across the north-west of Scotland.
01:45So by around four or five o'clock, you can see where the rain is,
01:48mostly England and Wales and the odd heavier pulse can't be ruled out.
01:51But temperatures will be on the mild side, 11 to 12 degrees Celsius.
01:56Now through Wednesday evening, this first batch of rain slowly slides down towards the southeast.
02:02But more wet weather arrives across western areas.
02:05And this is heavier rain and some stronger winds and colder air behind it.
02:09So expect some intense bursts through the early hours of Thursday morning
02:13as yet again it arrives across Northern England, Wales and the West Country.
02:17Winds will pick up some strength mild towards the southeast to start the day on Thursday
02:22and a windy start across the north-west of Scotland with gales,
02:26not severe gales across exposure.
02:28So through Thursday morning, this rain here may cause a few problems on the roads
02:33across central, southern and eastern areas of England, the odd heavier pulse.
02:37But it is slowly moving towards the southeast.
02:40Behind it, we'll see a few showers, but lots of showers across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:45Gales will pick up across the far north-west and these showers will be heavy
02:49with the risk of snow over the hills and mountains and even with the risk of thunder
02:53as that cold air really digs in later on.
02:56So through Thursday afternoon into evening time, we hang on to that wet weather
03:00east Anglia, the home counties.
03:02Drier skies just behind it, even some brighter weather,
03:05but lots of showers associated with those occlusions coming in.
03:08And colder still on Friday, you'll really notice the difference.
03:12A band of rain will move across the country towards northern areas as we head through the day.
03:16Snow over the hills and mountains and moors and even at lower levels for a time,
03:21we could see a mix of rain and snow in the north.
03:23See you later.
