00:00Hello there, welcome to a Wednesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:06The air remains unstable across the UK for the next few days, all courtesy of an area
00:10of low pressure which currently sits towards the south-west of the UK.
00:14However, as we head into Thursday, this centre will track towards the south-west peninsula,
00:21bringing with it the chance of some gales and some damaging gusts, particularly along
00:25the south coast.
00:26Low pressure means rain or showers in this instance through the next few days and certainly
00:31that will be the case not only through this evening but through tomorrow as well.
00:35So coastal gusts tomorrow could reach 60-70mph, inland widely 50mph and expect more rain and
00:42the risk of some flooding, particularly for Antrim as well as County Down.
00:47Now let's take a look at the detail through Wednesday evening.
00:50Here are the showers, they're pushing northwards, perhaps some clearer skies across eastern
00:54counties and strong winds across the far north of Scotland with some persistent rain.
00:59Another area of wet weather arrives through the early hours of the morning, pushing up
01:02across central southern England, the Midlands, pivoting round towards the home counties as
01:06well.
01:07On the western flank, as it encounters some cold air, we could see some wet snow, some
01:11slushy deposits, likely anywhere from the west Midlands towards northern parts of Wales
01:17and then the winds pick up further strength towards the south through the early hours
01:20of the morning.
01:21A cold end to the night across Scotland, at least though, you'll see some drier skies
01:25here, more clouds for Northern Ireland even so, temperatures 2 or 3 degrees Celsius and
01:29a dry start across eastern counties further west, yes always the chance of some showery
01:34rain also for the Midlands, east Anglia through the first part of the morning.
01:38Through Thursday morning, let's just hone in on where the winds will be strongest, you
01:41can see really gale force winds across the west country pushing up towards south Wales,
01:46outbreaks of rain as well extend towards central southern England, it's really along the coast
01:50where we'll see high waves and the strongest gusts as the rain becomes more showery as
01:55we head through the afternoon tomorrow.
01:58So the bigger picture for the whole of the UK, a cold and bright start across northern
02:03and central parts of Scotland, you can see some drier weather also for southern Scotland
02:07but that rain moves in across Northern Ireland through the first part of the morning, extends
02:11across north Wales and northern counties of England, clearing east Anglia and then this
02:16next batch of rain associated with low pressure, so gale force winds, outbreaks of rain and
02:21after a dry respite across the Midlands and east Anglia, you'll see further wet weather
02:25here as it extends across Wales.
02:27Now through the afternoon, this rain becomes more showery but even so, the risk of some
02:32heavy downpours with also the chance of some thunder.
02:36Showery rain continues across northern Ireland, central belt of Scotland as well and with
02:39this onshore breeze through the day, we'll see more clouds and some showery bursts of
02:43rain for central, eastern and northern parts of Scotland.
02:45So wherever you are, you're never too far away from some wet weather, away from perhaps
02:49the far north west of Scotland, temperatures here 10 degrees Celsius, we could squeeze
02:53a 12 across the far south east.
02:56Slowly the winds will lose the sting across more southern areas into Good Friday but low
03:01pressure still delivering that cloud and rain as also some showery bursts of rain.
03:07So through Thursday evening, here's your shower distribution, heavy showers at that, that
03:12driving wind pushing these showers ever northwards, an onshore breeze feeling cold in that wind
03:18across eastern counties of Scotland and more rain becomes persistent across Shetland and
03:22then eventually Auckland and the tip of Caithness through the evening and overnight.
03:27Whereas for northern Ireland, some showery bursts will continue but they'll lose a lot
03:30of their intensity.
03:32Towards the south into Good Friday, more showers arrive across central and southern parts of
03:37England and Wales.
03:39With some clearer skies to start the day across the north midlands, Yorkshire as well
03:43as Liverpool Bay.
03:44But showery rain anywhere from Cumbria, Northumberland up towards border regions, central and eastern
03:49parts of Scotland through the first part of Friday.
03:53Now these showers yet again will have some strength to them, so quite intense, the winds
03:58will be strong so they're moving quite quickly northwards in between some brighter weather
04:02and again that cloud and rain never too far away from the far north west of Scotland through
04:06the day.
04:07Temperatures up a notch though, 9, to 11, 12, 13 degrees Celsius and we lose the intensity
04:13of the showers on Saturday, we gain a little bit of sunshine, temperatures 12 to 14 degrees
04:18Celsius and then come Sunday we'll see some quieter weather for Scotland and northern
04:22England but always a chance of some showery rain, particularly further south and southeast.
04:28Now for more details of your 10 day trend, this week it's with Ada McGiven and I'll see
04:33you again soon.
