00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:05Now through the next few days, high pressure remains firmly in charge across Scandinavia
00:10and we inherit a southeasterly wind.
00:13At this time of year, sea surface temperatures around the coastline of the UK are at their
00:18lowest, hence the reason why it's been cold in exposure along the eastern side of the
00:22country.
00:23Into Friday, the winds pick up even further, turning quite gusty over the higher ground
00:28and still the chance of some showers moving northwards.
00:31Into the weekend, we watch as a feature arrives across more southern counties.
00:35Let's now backtrack to Wednesday evening.
00:38A lot of clouds covering central and eastern areas of Scotland, eastern counties of England
00:43down towards Lincolnshire, clearer skies further south.
00:46Any showers across the west country will tend to fade away, a bit of a breeze here extending
00:50towards Northern Ireland and western parts of Scotland.
00:53So mixing the air up, temperatures not as low as inland, where we'll see a lighter
00:57breeze.
00:58We could see some pockets of frost and also the chance of some fog yet again, particularly
01:02across central and northern areas of England and where you see that low cloud shrouding
01:07the Pennines as well as the Grampians.
01:09Watch out for poor visibility if you are traveling.
01:12Temperatures then dipping down to around three or four degrees Celsius.
01:15As I said, in the countryside in shelter, you could see temperatures close to freezing.
01:20First thing then on Thursday morning, generally a lot of cloud across England, even some showers
01:25towards the southeast.
01:27Brighter skies across western Scotland, a keen breeze further east though, and we continue
01:31to see a feed of showers across Shetland.
01:34Now through the day, showers will develop across the Midlands, the southeast, and slowly
01:38they'll migrate towards Wales and Northern England, mostly scattered here, but they could
01:42pep up across more southern parts through the afternoon.
01:46Brighter skies and a blustery breeze for the west country, similar situation for Northern
01:50Ireland.
01:51You'll see some brighter weather, even some sunshine, so a real mix in terms of what the
01:55sky will look like and how high the temperatures will get.
01:58With this onshore breeze along the eastern side of Scotland, northeast England, that's
02:02where the lowest temperatures will be inland if you catch some showers.
02:05Not too bad though, 10, 11 degrees Celsius help with a little sunshine from time to time.
02:11Now three Thursday evening and overnight, these showers, as you can see, could turn
02:15a bit heavy across mid Wales, central southern England, as well as the Midlands, and they're
02:19migrating northwards, and again with that wind picking up, particularly towards more
02:23eastern areas, will deliver more clouds and some showery bursts of rain into Friday morning.
02:29So expect some showers across Northern Ireland, central, southern and eastern areas of Scotland,
02:34and that cloud again will be stubborn across Northern England.
02:37We could see some patchy drizzle, particularly over the higher ground.
02:41Clearer skies further south and east, and here, if we find the winds fall a little bit
02:45lighter, some fog patches.
02:46It's going to be a rather chilly start to the day come Friday morning, but a rather
02:51breezy one.
02:52Again, could be a bit gusty over the Moors, as well as the Grampians and Pennines.
02:56A lot of clouds generally, and with that cloud, it could turn a bit damp where the clouds
03:00thick enough.
03:01Brighter skies emerge there across the Midlands, east Anglia, central southern England, even
03:05Wales seeing some brighter weather from time to time, but it will be windy, particularly
03:08down towards the west country, the northern and eastern portion of Scotland, with that
03:12wind coming in from a cold direction, temperatures struggling here.
03:15Elsewhere around 9 or 10 degrees Celsius.
03:18Into Friday evening and overnight, the cloud will thicken across southern counties, particularly
03:22towards the southwest.
03:24We continue to see a feed of clouds across northern and eastern parts of Scotland, as
03:28well as England, and clearer skies across western Scotland, where it will remain dry.
03:33Showery bursts of rain arrive through the early hours of the weekend into Saturday morning,
03:37and they could turn heavy.
